WORLD CONGRESS OF AUDIOLOGY
WORLD CONGRESS OF THE IALP
SAC ADVERTISING UPDATE
HIGHLIGHTS FROM WCA2016
SAC was thrilled to have the opportunity to co-host the 33rd World Congress of Audiology and welcome audiologists from Canada and around the world to Vancouver. With over 1,200 delegates from over 40 countries, WCA2016 was truly a global event.

From the opening keynote address by Yves Joanette, PhD, FCAHS, to the closing Glorig Lecture delivered by Harvey Dillon, PhD, WCA2016 brought together world-renowned speakers on a diverse range of topics, including the WHO Lecture Making hearing care accessible for all with Dr. Shelly Chandra.

WCA2016 also presented fantastic networking opportunities, including the Student-Mentor Networking Lunch co-chaired by SAC Board Director Li Qi, PhD, RAUD, Aud(C) and Susan Small, PhD which offered audiology students the opportunity to meet leaders in the profession.

Another highlight was the New Professionals Reception hosted by SAC and the Canadian Academy of Audiology, which gave young professionals from around the world the chance to meet and make new connections.

The standing room only roundtable presentations, the sold out exhibitor hall and the new friendships made between colleagues from around the world are evidence of the tremendous energy and excitement that surrounded this international event.
THE 30th WORLD CONGRESS OF THE IALP
Jerri-Lee MacKay, M.Sc., Aud(C), SAC Chair, and Joanne Charlebois, SAC CEO, recently had the opportunity to represent our association at the 30th World Congress of the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics (IALP) held in Dublin, Ireland. IALP is a worldwide organization of professionals and scientists in communication, voice, speech-language pathology, audiology and swallowing.

In addition to attending the IALP, Joanne and Jerri-Lee also met with their international counterparts and took part in meetings related to the International Communications Project.
SAC ADVERTISING UPDATE
SAC is dedicated to promoting the important role that our members and associates play in the Canadian health-care and education systems. Starting in 2014, we embarked on an ambitious rebranding initiative and advertising campaign, launching over the next two years, our very successful “Joy”, “Awe”, “Brave” and “Love” advertisements.

Our initial plan for 2016 was to repurpose and refocus our advertising campaign by reaching out to politicians, senior bureaucrats and key decision-makers this fall. However, as our 2016 planning began to take shape, it became clear that our proposed campaign lacked a strong enough political "ask" to generate an adequate return on investment. It goes without saying that advertising campaigns require a substantial amount of resources, both human and financial. Every time we invest our member and associates’ money on significant projects, like advertising campaigns, we need to be absolutely confident that this money is being invested wisely. We did not think this was the case for the 2016 fall advertising campaign.

We are currently developing plans for a 2017 campaign that will be tied to our yearly Speech and Hearing Month advocacy initiatives. We will continue to update members and associates about this campaign as we move forward.
