Hola <<First Name>>,
We are almost at the end of August already and it still is summer. Here in Granada they say….. it will be summer until it is winter. Autumn we just seem to skip. So a long summer for me. :-)
Summer is a time to enjoy life, to relax and to, sometimes, recover from the rest of the year. To go on holiday or enjoy days away. A time in which strict eating or focusing on eating is probably far off your list. It is time to enjoy what life offers you.
But to enjoy the holiday, it is important to have enough energy. Proper nutrition and the timing of what you eat can do wonders to make you feel alert, powerful and energetic.
But what is proper timing and proper nutrition?
There is not one single answer. Lunch in Spain is e.g. around 15h and is the most important meal of the day. Whereas in The Netherlands the main meal, dinner is. What the Spaniards do well is eat 5 times a day.
And what might be good food for me, might be hell for you. Even though nuts, for example, are a superfood, I should preferably skip it from my menu. And wholegrain food is not a great idea for people with celiac disease either.
How to eat for more energy?
Always eat breakfast
Eat less, more often
Distribute your calories equally among breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Eat in season
Eat balanced (containing the four main food groups)
