Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) and Regional
Transportation Planning Organizations (RTPOs) are based on the concept
of 3Cs transportation planning: continuing, cooperative, comprehensive.
The whole format of the upcoming Transportation 101 session being
hosted by Yakima Valley Conference of Governments (YVCOG) is
designed to illuminate the greater Yakima Valley region transportation
planning relationships within the community and how YVCOG fills a
role that makes the 3 Cs come alive.

After a quick introduction of federal and state transportation background, we’ll hear from:
 YVCOG – Larry Mattson, Executive Director
 Transportation Policy Board Member – TBA
 Technical Advisory Committee Chair – Gary Ekstedt, Yakima County
 Mobilizing Public Access to Countywide Transportation Chair –
            Jan Ollivier, People For People
 Washington State Department of Transportation – Troy Suing,
Assistant Regional Administrator and Paul Gonseth, Planning Engineer
 Driving Rural Yakima Valley’s Economy Chair – Santos Trevino,
              City of Grandview
 Trans-Action – Mike Battle, Huibregtse Louman Associates, Inc.
              (waiting for confirmation)

A suggested audience for this session are: general public with interest in regional transportation planning, staff members of agencies and jurisdictions or local business people who want to know about various opportunities on regional transportation planning committees, and elected officials who are recent to or would like a refresher on the regional transportation planning community in Yakima County.
