Laura Langley Memorial Blood Drive

Saturday, August 27, 10 am to 4 pm

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your past support of the Laura Langley Memorial Blood Drive.  Please help us save lives again this year by donating blood on Sat. August 27 at First Christian Church, 4954 Valleydale Road, between 10:00 and 4:00.  If this 5th Annual Drive is as successful as our previous ones, we will then have saved over 1000 lives in our Laura's memory! She would be so pleased!!!

To insure you won't have to wait in line to donate, please go to www.redcrossblood.org and enter Sponsor Code LAURA to make your appointment at a convenient time.

To read more about what an important part of Laura's amazing legacy this effort is, please click here.

And please help spread the word to your friends, co-workers and neighbors.  Youth age 17 or older can donate with parental permission!  A flyer about the event that you can email to others is attached.  It includes a link that will enable an appointment to be made for a specific donation time.

Please let us know if you have any questions, and again our sincerest THANKS!

God bless,
Jim and Ann Langley

Sign Up Now For Faith Foundations!

Faith Foundations is a series of small group experiences designed to help you grow closer to God and to one another.

We believe all of our members and friends can benefit from this experience, so we are offering several groups this Fall: three different sessions of Joyful Generosity (FF3), and one session of Intro to Discipleship (FF1) for those just getting started on this journey.

Click here to learn more about Faith Foundations and to sign up for a group.  Groups begin September 14, and continue through October 23.  Childcare is available on Wednesday evenings; contact the church office to make childcare  reservations.

Children’s Sunday School will resume Sunday, September 11 at 9:00 am. We will meet in room 202 and have games, crafts, and Bible based lessons each week. We hope you will join us for fun, engaging, faith-forming experiences for ages 3K – 5th grade.
RING THOSE BELLS

If you ever have, thought about or just dreamed of playing bells please plan to come to the choir room after church this Sunday, Aug 28 for a brief meeting to discuss plans for the holidays. If you are interested but cannot attend please let me know either by email or calling the church office. Looking forward to ringing those bells!  Twila
Dear church family,

What a privilege it is to be involved in one of the ministries here at First Christian Church!  You have been so faithful to love and support T.A.N. in so many ways over all these years.  I am thankful for this.

We are busy preparing for the new school year.  The classrooms are being cleaned and decorated for our students.  The teachers are doing a great job!

We will have visitation for our students and parents on Thursday, September 1 at 10:00 a.m. Our first day of school is Tuesday, September 6 at 9:30 a.m.  We welcome back some of our old friends and look forward to getting to know our new friends.

Our first fundraiser will start on September 1.  We will be selling "Enjoy the City" coupon books for $25 each. The school gets to keep half the proceeds from the sale.  Please let us know if you would like to purchase one.

We hope you have a great end of August and a good month in September.

I ask that in the coming weeks if we come to mind, please lift us up in your prayers.

May God bless you!
Debbie

ADOPTION FUNDRAISER SHOE DRIVE
Dana & Rusty Owens, friends of the Art and Regena Varvoutis, are collecting gently worn shoes to help support mircro-enterprise programs in Haiti and to help fund their adoption.  Our second-hand shoes are used by people in impoverished countries where they can repurpose and sell them. This enables them to form an income so they can pay for housing, food, educational expenses, etc.  If you would like to help, please place your gently worn shoes in the laundry basket in the narthex.  Thank you for your generosity!

OFFICE HOURS

The church office is open 9 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Thursday.  The office will be closed on Fridays.  If you need to reach a pastor while the office is closed, please dial 205-295-6708 to reach the minister on call.
