Milestones and Landmarks -Pastor Ulmet's Blog - Ministry News - Coming Up
Thursday, September 1, 2016

This is the final lesson from the series based on the book by Dr. H. Ray Dunning, Biblical Heights for Today's Valleys.  This week we look at The Mount of Final Vision - The New Creation.  The new sermon series, God of the City begins September 11.

September 4:  Pastor Bruce Oldham will be preaching in both the Celebration Worship and Branch services this week.

Drs. Bruce and Peggy Oldham will soon be leaving the States to serve the Church of the Nazarene in the Philippines.  Pastor Oldham has been elected the President of Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary.  We will miss them greatly but we are excited about what God will do through them in the future.  On Sunday, September 11 we will be receiving a special missionary offering for the Oldhams.  The 5:30pm evening service will be an opportunity to say farewell beginning in the sanctuary and then moving to the Woodand Street Mall for a special reception.  We welcome you to any and all of our upcoming services!

GOD OF THE CITY - A Heart for Greater Nashville

We begin a five week sermon series on September 11 in our morning worship services focusing on our role as a church in this location.  Nashville First Church of the Nazarene has always been and remains today an Urban Church.  Never before has it been more important to understand our base of ministry location but also our reach of ministry across Middle Tennessee, hence the "Greater Nashville" in the subtitle.

Nèos (Youth+College+Young Adults) - SUNDAY NIGHT SUCCESS!
Recently, in the restructuring of our Youth, College and Young Adult programs, we changed formats in our approach to Sunday Nights.  Sunday nights for the past several years have been opportunities to serve our community.  With those outside service opportunities shifting to every 6-8 weeks on Wednesday evenings, it left us with an opportunity to re-imagine our Sunday evening programing.  The major shift comes in giving youth, college and young adults the opportunity to invest back into their church.  So twice a month, on Sunday Nights students gather together in four different groups: 1. Mission/Service Projects; 2. Worship Band Practice; 3. Game Development; 4. Tech Team.  Each of one these tracks provides students with hands on opportunities to learn and serve our Wednesday evening programming.  It’s been incredible to watch college students teach middle schoolers, for example, how to program and run the worship projection slides.  It’s also, fun to watch a middle schooler blow away a young adult with a service project idea!  One month in we’ve grown about 50% in attendance over last fall.  We still need more adults with experience in one of four of these categories to help train and enrich these opportunities.  Feel free to contact Pastor Matt Taylor if you’d be interested in serving!

WE HAVE FOUND A FAMILY HERE

In our new vision here at NFCN, we have made a commitment to our city: "You can find a family here."  The intention of that is for people seeking God and friends, to let them know they will be received and loved among us.

I have had the privilege of being your pastor now for five years.  When Karen and Christy and I moved here in 2011, our middle daughter Carissa had returned after graduating that year from Trevecca to the Chicago area, and therefore had no real relationship with our new church.  She has only been able to worship here a few times when visiting us.

Yet, last Sunday the ladies of NFCN threw a bridal shower and embraced our daughter and her sisters as if she'd lived her all her life and grown up among you. We have seldom if ever experienced such an outpouring of love and care.  She was literally overwhelmed, caught beyond words by your care for and interest in her.

One line in one of her thank you cards struck me: "We are so blessed to be a part of this church family."  Part of this family. Eight hours away!  Hardly ever here. But part of the family.

Maybe this is Vision fulfillment?  I think it's one expression of it!

THANK YOU for loving our family.  THANK YOU for being the Body of Christ to them! And remember, when we are a family to others, we deepen our own relationships. What an idea!  What a concept!  Yes, Nashville and beyond. You Can Find a Family Here!
