TriBE Community Update

23 August 2016

Inspiration!

Last night I was watching The Crowd Goes Wild and Mark Richardson mentioned that he'd entered the Masters Games Triathlon because he was so inspired by the performance of Nick Willis winning gold.  That's the awesome thing about the Olympics, you can be inspired by athletes in any sport and use that as motivation to really go after the goals you are trying to achieve - in our case all those upcoming triathlon goals for this season!

We have lots of exciting stuff in this edition of TRIBE.  The new Foundation Level Coaching accreditation has been launched, this is great for all those who want to get into some coaching but unsure where to start.  Our NZ team of over 120 athletes are getting ready to head over to Cozumel and Oklahoma for the standard, sprint, aqua, and long distance World Championships.  We also have the 70.3 World Championships in Sunshine Coast - good luck to all those racing!

Check out below for the three best photos from our #TRIBEPROUDAT2AM competition, vote for your favourite and they will win the framed and signed NZ Rio Olympic Tri Suit.  Also remember that Sovereign Tri Series entries are now open!

Happy training all, and stay safe!

Anna Russell, Community Director, Tri NZ

National Champs Spotlight

The National Elite Series

This is one of the most exciting additions to the Sovereign Tri Series this summer!  The Series is open for anyone looking to challenge themselves against the best in NZ, while competing for both prize money and points.  Full information can be found here, key points below:
  • Three races make up the series: Tinman (20th Nov) - Olympic-distance and non-drafting, Takapuna (29th Jan) - Sprint-distance and draft-legal, and Kinloch (12th Feb) - National Sprint-distance and Oceania Sprint Champs
  • Total prize money of $15,000 across the series, $5,000 per event split evenly men/women
  • Points across the series with overall male/female winner given priority nomination for New Plymouth World Cup race
  • To support and inspire communities athletes must represent their local club (and preferably race in club kit)
"I think this is a great opportunity for elite athletes to compete for a series title, as well as aspiring junior & even longer distance athletes to give it a go against HP athletes! The 3 venues are all awesome courses, and all very different which will make for some interesting races & no doubt a few surprises! I think this is a great initiative that will make domestic racing even better for the whole triathlon community"
