Tena koutou katoa, greetings.

North Otago Cross Country:
It was neat to see 20 of our children representing our school at the North Otago Cross Country on Monday afternoon.  While we didn't have any major placegetters, I was very proud to see all of our children crossing the finish line having given everything that they could!  We did have a number of top ten finishes - Ka pai - Well done to all of you.
School Vision:
We are currently working with a Curriculum Advisor from the University of Otago to review our curriculum programmes.  A review of our school wide vision and direction has resulted from this.  Again - we would be interested in hearing your ideas, about our school.  The questions relate to values that we can share in 'child speak', what you ultimately want your children to leave Waitaki Valley with, and the gathering of some ideas about a 'slogan' that we could use.  The survey will remain open until Sept 1st.  Please take the time to share your thinking here.  Again - we will have a lucky prize draw for someone who completes this for us.
Writing Book:
We have had a positive response to the Writing Book that we are going to publish.  This book will contain a piece of writing of every child in the school.  There are a number of businesses who have committed to supporting this, minimising the printing costs for us.  If you are interested in supporting this, but have not received a letter, please make contact with myself or Michelle in the office. If you have received a letter, but have not yet confirmed your commitment with us, please also make contact.
Visitors to the school:
Mrs Jepson and Mrs Powell have been part of a nationwide working party who are supporting the redevelopment of the National Library and their services to schools.  As part of this we are inquiring into the use of our own library.  On Monday we welcome Maxine Ramsay from the National Library to support us through this process of inquiry.  On Tuesday we welcome a group of  teachers from Waimataitai School in Timaru who are coming to view our classrooms in action. It is wonderful for our school to be involved in supporting initiatives across a variety of educational facilities. Last week we also had a visit from Sky Sport UK who are filming a rugby documentary ahead of next year's British Lions tour.  They were about town interviewing a number of people who had been an influence on Richie - so we look forward to seeing this view in NZ.
What an dynamic place we have to live and work in!
Have a great week everyone
