RCS Band Program: Grades 4-12

The RCS band program is still recruiting for the 2016-17 school year! Concert Band is a year-long commitment in the arts as an elective class, and it is not too late to enroll or switch into these classes. This year we are continuing our Pep Band for grades 7-12 to play at the High School football and basketball games to show our Rancho spirit.  All classes will participate in the athletic bands, seasonal concerts, competitive festivals and a "Music in the Parks" trip. Students are invited to play any instrument in the brass, woodwind or drums families.
  • High School Band meets during 8th period, and will have a few after school practices.
  • 7th-8th Grade Band meets 3rd period and is Intermediate Level, and will have a few after school practices.
  • 6th Grade Band meets 5th period and is Beginning Level (no athletic band) and is open to all students in place of computers/foundations class as an elective.  WE REALLY NEED MORE 6th GRADERS. It is the perfect time to start music classes!  Music at this age is fun and is great for motor skills, brain development, and includes an online computer learning as well.
  • Elementary Bands will learn fundamentals in music reading, as well as instrument basics. ES Bands will meet during their regular music time, once per week, and take time off to participate in Mrs. Edall's productions for Veterans Day and Christmas. Students can choose from trumpet, trombone, flute, clarinet or drums.
    • 5th Grade Band meets on Fridays, 7:45 am - 8:30 am
    • 4th Grade Band meets on Wednesdays, 7:45 am - 8:30 am
Students with all experience levels are invited to join. Please contact Mr. Gregory Cowee, Director of Instrumental Music at greg.cowee@ranchochristian.org for more information and to reserve your child's spot in this exciting opportunity in the fine arts. As with other co-curricular activities there is a one time $75 lab fee for supplies and new music.

It's a great way to show your kids that you take an interest in their education, and it sends a positive message that you consider school a worthwhile cause. Research also shows that when parents actively participate at their child's school, that their child performs better. There are SO MANY WAYS to get involved at Rancho! Please visit our Volunteer webpage at ranchochristian.org/volunteer for more information and to submit an interest form today.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEWS

Elementary Dress Code Policy Update

You may have noted in the dress code this year that closed-toe shoes were not mentioned. Due to safety concerns on the playground, we need to add a component to this year's dress code policy. Effective tomorrow, August 25, shoes must be closed at the toe to prevent injury to the foot while on the field and playground. Sandals are not permitted. Thank you for understanding the need to make this correction.

As a friendly reminder, collared shirts are required everyday except Friday. Spirit wear is only allowed on Friday. Chapel is on Wednesday and the chapel day uniform is a navy polo with a khaki bottom.
