We have compiled a list of resources from the Centers for Disease Control to help you and your family stay safe while enjoying the outdoors. Please read on for more information about steps you can take to prevent mosquito bites and the spread of mosquito born viruses.
The following is from the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS). Zika has recently been identified as a public health threat in Texas. It is likely that Texas will experience local transmission of Zika virus by mosquitoes at some point.
The Texas Department of State Health Services has ramped up efforts to protect people from Zika virus and is urging people to follow mosquito precautions. While there is no evidence of local transmission by Texas mosquitoes now, state health officials have quickly implemented Zika virus prevention plans in anticipation of increased mosquito activity and the potential for local mosquito transmission.
The Nueces County Department of Public Works monitors mosquitoes at 17 locations throughout rural Nueces county and performs vector control spraying as appropriate. Texas has had 122 reported cases of Zika virus disease. Currently Nueces County has no reported cases of Zika.
