to todays' feature Winery tasting with our friends who own the German Pizza Foodtruck...

Today we kickoff the Garrison Festival early...
3pm for our weekly winery tastings...
But...you are in for a surprise when you will see two wineries tasting in-store today! 
Steve from Summerhill is featuring the beautiful wines where it all began for me including my first ever BC wine that brought my passion to you in Chilliwack, Cipes Brut!
He will also have what we called in the winery...their Ehrenfelser "Hot Tub Wine". 
Organic is what this winery is all about and he will feature a number of their award-winning wines this afternoon along with a brand new Rose and the only Rose made from Syrah...their Syrah Rose.
One of my very favourite new wineries...Culmina will also be in store this afternoon featuring one of my fave grape varieties... their Decora which is 100% Riesling! 
They will also be pouring what has been demeemed as one of the Best Red Blends in the Country...their Hypothesis! I am also excited to have their Saignee Rose which is one of our Best Selling Roses in BC! 
Saturday we are featuring one of the wineries that I visited on my last visit to the Okanagan from the Naramata Bench...

FRIDAY, AUGUST 26

Culmina 2014 Decora $20.00 +taxes 

An intensely focused and bright Riesling, Decora is characterized by distinct chalk and grapefruit aromas, accented with delicate spice, stone fruit, and white flower notes. Whetting the appetite with lively acidity, Decora first hits the mouth with wonderful nectarine flavours, followed by an integrated palate of mineral and citrus, and a dry, energizing finish. Jalapeño and chive braised tomatoes, thick-cut smoked bacon, and crème fraiche-laden scrambled eggs; kale, avocado, and grapefruit salad; West Coast oysters on the half-shell; panko-battered BC Halibut tacos with peach, radish, and savoy cabbage slaw; raclette, pork tenderloin, and new potatoes; gruyère and pancetta stuffed chicken.
 
91 points – John Schreiner “It is a racy, exciting, bone-dry wine that…begins with floral and citrus aromas that lead to flavours of lime and lemon with a spine of minerality. While this still shows all the primary fruit aromas and flavours of a young Riesling, it will blossom over the next several years to show that complexity that Riesling fans call petrol.”

 

Culmina 2015 Saignee $22.00 +taxes BEST SELLER
A savoury, pale-coloured rosé from select micro-blocks on the estate with wild strawberry, blood orange, and herbs de Provence aromas. Rich and intense, the fleshy palate has balanced, round acidity with flavours of ripe raspberry and rosehip to form a classically-styled rosé reminiscent of Southern French styles. Pair with blistered cherry tomato, parmesan, and Jamón Ibérico crostini; wild boar prosciutto and pistachio pork terrine charcuterie; watermelon, mint, and sheep feta salad; arctic char with green beans and Lentilles du Puy; traditional Peking duck; Greek-style chicken kebabs with tzatziki and saffron rice; suckling pig with cherry-orange thyme glaze.   VARIETAL BLEND Merlot (42%) Cabernet Sauvignon (28%) Cabernet Franc (21%)  Malbec (9%) 

2015 Saignée – 90 points (David Lawrason)
“This is a very fine layered, dry rose based on a blend of merlot, cabernet franc, cab sauvignon and malbec. It’s pale salmon in colour with a lovely nose of pink grapefruit nose, redcurrant, persimmon, sage and herbs. It’s quite full bodied, almost creamy on the mid-palate with some alcohol heat on the finish. Don’t over chill this, and I suggest it will be better with food. The length is very good to excellent.”

VARIETAL BLEND Merlot (57%) Cabernet Sauvignon (24%) Cabernet Franc (19%)
A rich, bold, terroir-driven blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc from select micro-blocks displaying abundant spice, floral, and dark red fruit aromas, enveloping the palate with dense structure, toasted oak, fine tannins, red plum flavours, and a long, persistent finish. Pair with braised Angus beef short ribs with a red wine reduction; seared duck breast with a herbed brown butter sauce; Dijon mustard and thymerubbed lamb; roasted beets; morel mushrooms; firm cheeses like aged Cheddar or Fontina; and raw cheeses like Gruyere or Comté.


93 points – Rick Van Sickle “…what a beauty! Dark and rich in the glass with opulent aromas of black currants, concentrated blackberries, red plums, an array of oakenriched spices and a touch of eucalypt. It’s big and powerful on the palate and highlights persistent dark fruits, plush tannins, and spices all delivered on a long, lush finish. Such depth of flavour yet finessed and polished.”


 
Summerhill Cipes Brut $29.56 +taxes 

A true Okanagan Valley classic, winning gold medals every year since first released in 1992. Made in the traditional method from organic Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc.Aromas of apple, lime, pear, almonds and grapefruit. On the palate Cipes Brut exhibits crisp acidity, a soft, creamy mousse, and a long finish. A great sparkling wine for any occasion. A delightful aperitif with cheeses, fruit, hors d'oeuvres, and lighter dishes. (1-sweetness)

Summerhill 2014 Ehrenfelser $19.12 +taxes
Luxurious texture and wildly delicious layers of flavours and aromas. Notes of apricot, gooseberry, citrus, honeysuckle, orange blossom, cantalope, and peach, with undertones of tropical fruits. This celebrated rare grape variety thrives in the Okanagan. This will be a perfect accompaniment to Thai green curry and other Thai dishes, picnics, salads and sandwiches. But will be perfect enjoyed as a sipping wine with friends. Sweetness (2).

On the nose this wine is bursting with stone fruit, lychee, rose petal, ruby red grapefruit and orange blossoms. On the palate is a full body and a long floral finish with subtle hints of baking spice. Clean, fruity, floral, and delicious. Classic Gew. Perfect with turkey or chicken dishes. Also try enjoying with Curried Mussles, spicy dishes or other Asian cuisine.

Therapy Vineyards 2015 Fizzio- Therapy $21.73 +taxes

Light in colour but full of flavor this sparkling wine has aromas of peaches, stone fruit and granny smith apples. Produced off-dry to help balanced the racy acidity in the wine, the fruit flavors explode from the wine due to the carbonation process. Blend:  91% Chardonnay 9% Orange Muscat.

Aromatics reminiscent of ripe stone fruit, green apple, and peach aromas this wine’s palate is balanced with fresh, clean ripe fruit flavours. Medium mouth feel and great length this wine is fruity, fresh, and approachable now and doesn’t need to be aged very long.

Therapy Vineyards 2015 Freudian Sip $17.38 +taxes  
A immensely popular wine with intense aromas of green apple, citrus, petrol and tropical fruits that meld with the concentrated flavors of lemon zest, peach and red apples on the palate.  The off-dry finish is balanced with a mouth watering acidity backbone creating an all around pleasant sipping wine. Pinot Gris 43%,  Riesling 30%, Sauvignon Blanc 20%, Chardonnay 4%, Viognier 3%.

This attractive Rosé wine is balanced with intense aromatics of strawberry yogurt, red licorice and blackberry jam. Followed by a concentrated red plum, sweet cherry and fresh strawberry shortcake palate. The mid-palate is round and juicy because of the natural residual sugars and acidity creating a balanced off-dry finish. Enjoy this wine chilled with cheeses and fruits or on its own on a warm summer day. Blend:  Pinot Noir 36% Merlot 53% Chardonnay 11%.

Deep raspberry in colour, this wine is matched with black currants, white pepper & leather on the nose. Followed up by toasty oak and dark chocolate aromas, the palate has great focus towards the soft tannins and toasty complexity. The finish is smooth and textured with lots of red fruit which leads to a wine that can be drank now, or age for a couple more years. Blend: 63% Merlot, 34% Cab Sauv, 3% Cab Franc.

This Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc has a traditional bright aromatic core of tobacco, vanilla, bold red fruit and a spicy complexity.  Balanced on the palate with its savory  flavours of cured meats, coffee and brandied fruit, this wine is designed for a cellaring period of 5-8 years. Only 300 cases produced. Blend: 46% Cab Sauv, 46% Merlot, 8% Cab Franc.
