Should the New Zealand Government adopt the International Open Data Charter?

Open data is a core component of our world’s increasing digital economy, providing opportunity to generate significant social and economic benefits to our society. Open data is a tool to drive open, transparent and accountable governments.

The process

Phase 1: We’d like to hear your thoughts about New Zealand potentially adopting the International Open Data Charter, and about your use and knowledge of the current NZ Data & Information Management Principles.

Phase 2: (from 1 September) You’ll have opportunity to discuss and debate your thoughts in an online forum. This will be the place for deeper and more robust discussion based on the input from Phase 1.

See what the Minister for Land Information, Hon. Louise Upston, has to say about open data.

Phase 1: It's now time for you to review the principles under which open data is released in NZ

Currently, we have the New Zealand Data & Information Management Principles  and recently, an international set of Open Data principles (the International Open Data Charter) has been made available for countries to consider adopting.

Should we adopt a standard international set of principles, continue with our current set or something in between?

It’s time to have your say - provide your input here!
