Spotlight on Washington County. This year's launch of
Intertwine Alliance County Summits has been an even bigger success than expected. The thirst for connecting with groups within one’s region is evident in the great attendance and rich and fruitful conversations we've seen so far. After positive efforts in East Multnomah, Clackamas and Clark counties, it's Washington County's turn. On
Monday, Oct. 3, we'll hold our first major gathering of west-side partners with the health-themed
Investing in Nature for Healthier Communities. Join us for this great opportunity, sponsored by Clean Water Services, to learn about innovative work going on in the county and to connect with new groups and projects. It's free and open to all.

United Nations Association of Portland! UNA Portland aims to educate the public about its global sustainable development goals, including protection against adverse affects to all water, habitat and climate change impacting natural resources and recreational assets.

- Registration for this year's Northwest Earth Institute EcoChallenge is under way. Create or start a team, choose a challenge, and get ready for the October 14-28 event.

- Good clean fun. Join the Clackamas River Basin Council, We Love Clean Rivers, and a flotilla of over 300 volunteers in rafts, kayaks, drift boats and scuba gear to scour the Clackamas River’s streambed and banks at the 14th Annual Down the River Clean Up on Sunday, Sept. 11. Two to three tons of garbage is collected each year, over half of which is recycled. Pre-registration required.
Ahoy, matey! Aquifer Adventure, a free pirate-themed groundwater festival put on by the Columbia Slough Watershed Council, docks in Portland on Saturday, Sept. 17, from noon to 4 p.m. Dress as a pirate for canoe rides, a scavenger hunt and more. Free t-shirts to the first 300 kids.
- Helmets? Check. Roller skates? Check. The last Sunday Parkways of the year, this one featuring Sellwood and Milwaukie, is coming up on Oct. 2. The Portland Bureau of Transportation has teamed up with the Crystal Springs Partnership's Salmon Celebration and the Bureau of Environmental Services for a route including Westmoreland, Sellwood and Water Tower parks, plus the Milwaukie farmers market and business district. Bike, roll, or walk the 8 miles of fun stops from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
