September 2016 Newsletter

The Intertwine Alliance is a coalition of 150+ public, private and nonprofit organizations working to integrate nature more deeply into the Portland-Vancouver metropolitan region. Interested in joining us? Here's how.
Time to take action! RSVPd yet for next week's Investing in a Green Future party at McMenamins Rock Creek Tavern in Hillsboro? If not, we hope you'll do so and join us Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. for wine/beer, hors d'oeuvres and presentations about three measures on the fall ballot that are of interest to many Intertwine partners. The Intertwine Alliance is hosting the event as a service to supporters of Measure 26-178, Protect Our Natural Areas; Measure 99, Outdoor School for All; and the Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District permanent rate levy. Please RSVP here. Email David at david@theintertwine.org with any questions.

Spotlight on Washington County. This year's launch of Intertwine Alliance County Summits has been an even bigger success than expected. The thirst for connecting with groups within one’s region is evident in the great attendance and rich and fruitful conversations we've seen so far. After positive efforts in East Multnomah, Clackamas and Clark counties, it's Washington County's turn. On Monday, Oct. 3, we'll hold our first major gathering of west-side partners with the health-themed Investing in Nature for Healthier Communities. Join us for this great opportunity, sponsored by Clean Water Services, to learn about innovative work going on in the county and to connect with new groups and projects. It's free and open to all. RSVP by Wednesday, Sept. 28. Questions? Please email Lauren at lauren@theintertwine.org.

One great thing leads to another. Due to popular demand, and thanks to all the brain power harnessed at the Clark County Trails Summit in June, the trails folks are following up with a trails forum on Wednesday, Sept. 21, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Vancouver City Hall. Please RSVP here. In addition, a Southwest Washington working group is organizing a gathering focused on youth engagement for this fall/winter. Clackamas County is also following up its enthusiastic May summit with an event in November. Both dates to be announced soon. Questions? Please email David at david@theintertwine.org.

Save your seat at the Fall Summit. Registration is now open for our biggest event of the year, The Intertwine Alliance Fall Summit. Set for Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Oregon Zoo, Advancing Equity: Creating an Inclusive Movement will take on the challenges and opportunities of this work in our sector and roll out the Alliance’s new Equity Strategy. Learn about a range of equity and inclusion-focused groups, project and resources throughout our coalition. But wait, there's more! This year we're bringing back the Force of  Nature Awards, with winners to be celebrated at a special luncheon just before the Summit. Seating for the awards luncheon and summit is limited, and the events are expected to fill. So please register today. Questions? Email David at david@theintertwine.org.

Nominations, please! As mentioned above, the Force of Nature Awards are back and will be given out at a celebratory luncheon preceding the Fall Summit. It's time to put on your thinking caps and nominate the most deserving, outstanding and innovative people and organizations among us. Please fill out this quick and easy nomination form by Friday, Sept. 30 to make sure hard-working and devoted Intertwine change-makers get the recognition they so deserve. United partners of The Intertwine. Welcome to the Alliance, United Nations Association of Portland! UNA Portland aims to educate the public about its global sustainable development goals, including protection against adverse affects to all water, habitat and climate change impacting natural resources and recreational assets.

Forum-filled fall. Forums are becoming the most popular way for like-minded Intertwine Alliance partners to cluster and connect. Quarterly trails, conservation, conservation education and health & nature forums are all soon to be scheduled for October, November and December. Stay tuned for details. Questions or input? Please email David at david@theintertwine.org.

Choose your own adventure. Thank you to the partners and friends who have sent in Daycations for the mobile app. It's not too late! We need more and more of your adventures in urban nature to populate the app at its launch -- and, of course, we'll be adding fresh Daycations on a regular basis. Get started today with the easy breezy Daycation Creation Station. The app is on the brink of going live; we'll keep you posted. Please contact Tara at tara@theintertwine.org with any questions or ideas.

Hot Outside. This month in our partner-contributed blog, Milagro's Dañel Malán introduces herself and the Intertwine Projects she wants to collaborate with you on. And Metro's Gaylen Beatty writes about building a partnership with the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon (APANO) to create habitat gardens in Portland's Jade District. Outside Voice showcases the ideas, opinions, concerns and projects of Alliance partners. We want to hear from you! Please direct your ideas or submissions to tara@theintertwine.org. You can also sign up to receive blog posts by email.
