Join us in making Bend the most livable city in America

By Vic Martinez
Bend 2030 Board Chair

What an incredible time to be living in Bend.

We are a vibrant, growing community. And, yes, with that growth there are challenges. But most importantly with those challenges there are opportunities.

We believe that together we can make Bend the most livable city in America. And we're working every day to achieve that goal.

Coming out of the Bend Livability Project, we worked with more than 30 partners to establish four core initiatives in housing, transportation, neighborhood livability and city governance that our volunteer board and executive director are now driving forward.

But we need your participation, too. You can have an impact on Bend's future by getting involved. Go to bendlivability.org and click on the Ongoing Initiatives tab. Sign up for the projects you care about and we'll be in touch.

We'll see you at our next event!

Two charter review forums on deck for this fall

Bend 2030 is partnering with the Bend Chamber of Commerce and the City Club of Central Oregon to hold a two-part charter review forum series this fall as one of our ongoing Bend Livability Project initiatives. The forums are designed to educate residents about governance issues and invite them to weigh in on the following important questions:
  • Do residents from all parts of Bend feel represented by the current method of electing councilors at-large?
  • Is it time for Bend’s mayor to be elected or continue to be appointed by fellow councilors
  • Do city councilors have the right support structure and pay in order to do their job?
Get educated and help us answer these questions at these two forums, which offer different content and build on each other. Learn more about the forums on our website or register now by clicking below!

Collaborative housing policy workgroup is underway

It's no secret that middle market housing is missing in Bend. Now, a group of key housing stakeholders is taking the workforce housing issue head-on.

Formed at the Bend Livability Conference, the steering committee of this new collaborative policy workgroup met for the first time in August and is just days away from releasing an RFP for a project manager who will lead more than a year's worth of work to develop new tools and policy to address this critical need in our community.

See the workgroup's report from the Livability Conference here and read the minutes of the steering committee's most recent meeting here. Then watch for news about the new project to hit local media early next week!

Eastside livability group forms

Born at the Bend Livability Conference, the Bend East Community Alliance is working to build a team of advocates for livability issues in this underserved area of Bend.

"Move Bend" sees first success with protected bike lane

One of the most important initiatives to come out of the Bend Livability Project is Move Bend—a coalition of public and private partners working together to build public support and funding for multimodal projects, such as new protected bike lanes like the one installed on Wall Street and described by The Bulletin this summer.

By aligning the efforts of Move Bend partners, we can achieve the transportation system we need to accommodate the 40 percent more people expected here by 2030. In the case of this bike lane, the Move Bend relationships between Bend 2030, Commute Options, Bend Bikes and the City of Bend's "Safer by Design" program made it possible.

Building the Move Bend team is a top priority for Bend 2030 this fall. Sign up here to be sure you get updates on how to get involved with Move Bend!
