Actively Waiting

Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!  Psalm 27:14

Over the past few months, we have been asked a recurring question, “When are you leaving?”  The question seems simple enough.  However, the answer is not.  We want to leave as soon as possible.  We miss the ministry in Paraguay and are anxious to return for training.  Our vision trip to Spain confirmed the calling we have to that country and ignited a greater excitement for future ministry.  Yet, we are still in the States . . . waiting.

The question that logically follows is, “What are you waiting for?”  Part of the answer is that we cannot leave until we have enough pledged financial support.  The budget for Spain is considerably more than our Paraguay budget.  We still need more people willing to partner with us on a monthly basis.

The other part of the answer is that God is using our time in the States to refine us for His service.  During our time here we are assisting a Latino congregation in Williamsburg.  Donald is connecting with current and potential ministry partners.  Carol is focusing on a Master’s degree in Christian School Administration at Regent University.

In his book, The Spirituality of Waiting, Henri Nouwen suggests that the secret of actively waiting is believing that what we await is already on its way.

We are Actively Waiting.

In April we went on a 10-day vision trip to Spain.  We visited 5 schools/school initiatives.  We also spent time with missionary friends.  As we learned about each place and listened to the people our God-given vision became much clearer.  We are not being called to start something new, but to come alongside Spanish nationals and schools as encouragers and trainers.

To receive Spanish visas, we need an invitation from a local church or ministry.  We are currently seeking an invitation from a church in Pamplona in the region of Navarra.   The church has a large residential drug rehab center as well as a small Christian school.  Donald would be involved with the ministries of the church, primarily in the role of evangelism and discipleship.  Carol would work with the school and eventually help in the development of Christian education across Spain.

Cora is starting 6th grade and Daniel will be in kindergarten at a local Christian school thanks to a generous scholarship.
Donald, Cora, and Daniel have just been hired to perform in the African American music program at Colonial Williamsburg.  Donald will also be leading school group tours at Jamestown and Yorktown.
