Greetings from JMS Artist Management

The 16-17 season is officially upon us, and we're planning to experience some incredible live music. We'd like to share this newsletter with you today to guide you through our artists' 16-17 projects!

Here's a short list that just scratches the surface: the Lydian String Quartet's upcoming tour in Taiwan, the Zéphyros Winds' US premiere of Wolfgang Rihm's Wind Quintet, the Boston Trio performing Beethoven's Triple Concerto with the Boston Philharmonic, pianist David Kalhous performing Bernstein's "The Age of Anxiety" with the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Stefan Asbury, and Irina Muresanu's role as "violinist and conductor" for her upcoming concerts at Symphony NH. Keep reading below for more information, and find out where you can see these groups in the next couple of months with our September-October performance calendar.
Zéphyros Winds will be embarking on tours of the East Coast this year, starting with October events in Maryland, Virginia, and New York, and ending next March with a residency at Rockport Music in Massachusetts. This Fall's tour will include a new staple of the ensemble's repertoire, Wolfgang Rihm's Wind Quintet. The quintet is in the process of recording the Rihm, one of the performers' favorite pieces.

UK conductor Stefan Asbury and New York-based Czech pianist David Kalhous meet next month in an exciting program of American music at the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra! David is also deeply connected to the music of the Czech Republic, and is working on a CD project of modern Czech composers.
In addition, he'll be recording 12 Scarlatti Sonata's this year for Czech Radio Vltava, a cultural station of Czech Radio that will record all of the catalogued sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti.

Irina Muresanu will be the featured soloist and conductor of Symphony NH in four concerts this Fall. Titled "The Four Seasons" and connected to Irina's "Four Strings Around the World" solo violin project, this program takes listeners across European traditions with solo violin music and music featuring violin and orchestra. Irina writes, "You will see me migrating around the ensemble, with or without the instrument, erasing the usual dividing lines between soloist, conductor, and orchestra... I hope that our audience will find our joy of music making irresistible!"

Other 2016-2017 highlights for Irina include a New England tour of "Rorem, Ravel and Rags" with pianist Roberto Plano and a world premiere of Elena Ruehr's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra with the Richmond Philharmonic
We're joyfully anticipating the official release of the Boston Trio's newest CD, "Elegy and Blues," on the Centaur Label this winter. The album was recorded a year ago with Astrid Schween, now a member of the Juilliard Quartet, and features the music of Arensky, Musto, and Fauré. This follows the release of another album earlier this year featuring a fantastic arrangement by Theodor Kirchner of Brahms' String Sextet in B-flat Major.
We're also very excited about the trio's February performances of Beethoven's Triple Concerto with Maestro Ben Zander and the venerable Boston Philharmonic Orchestra! The trio is looking forward to collaborating with this elite Boston institution. Additionally,  this season includes a tour of Pennsylvania, including a performance in Gettysburg, and a chamber concert at Harvard University's Paine Concert Hall!
The Lydian String Quartet's 16-17 season features a two-week trip to Taiwan in December with composer Yu-Hui Chang, where they'll perform two programs at the Taipei National University of the Arts and work closely with students. Another highlight this year includes the 2017 LSQ commission prize, one of the largest prizes for string quartet commissions in the country!
