(St. Paul) - August 30, 2016 - Faith, labor, and political allies of nurses will hold a rally and prayer vigil Wednesday, August 31 to show support for Allina Health nurses who are set to go on an open-ended Unfair Labor Practice strike. Community and labor leaders will join other labor unions outside Allina headquarters at 4 p.m. on 10th Avenue South and East Lake Street in Minneapolis. US Rep. Keith Ellison (DFL-Minneapolis) is also confirmed to speak.
Allina nurses represented by the Minnesota Nurses Association voted on August 18 to authorize an open-ended, Unfair Labor Practice strike. The nurses' negotiating team decided the strike will begin at 7 a.m. on Labor Day, Monday, September 5. MNA filed the required 10-day notice on the five affected Allina Health hospitals and Allina headquarters early on August 26. Picketing will take place at Abbott Northwestern, Allina Commons, Mercy, Phillips Eye Institute, United, and Unity hospitals.
