Call for Candidates for the
HGC Board of Directors

It is almost time to elect new members to your Board of Directors!

Applicant Information Sessions have been set.  Owners interested in finding out what it means to be a member of your Co-op board can simply reserve a spot to talk with a Director.

The informational sessions will be available Tuesday evenings starting September 6th and will continue on September 20th, October 4th and 18th at the Hudson Public Library (Room 206).  To set up a time simply send us an email at hudsongrocerycoop@gmail.com stating your interest to meet and learn more. If Tuesdays present a conflict let us know and we can arrange another time – we will work with your schedule.

A reminder that attendance at an information session is required in order for your name to be added to the ballot for director consideration. All director applications are due by October 21st.

We have posted the application and information packet on the volunteer page of our website at http://hudsongrocerycoop.org/volunteer.

HGC in Pepper Fest Parade

HGC joined the RiverFest “Scrappy” float in the North Hudson Pepper Fest parade to hand out HGC flyers and to help keep the parade “litter free” we handed out trash bags for parade viewers to collect their trash.

Thank you to John Hoggatt, Owen Meurett and Jacki Bradham for volunteering at the parade. It was a soggy walk, but surprisingly the rain didn’t scare away the parade watchers and it was a great opportunity to spread the word about the Co-op.

Volunteers Needed for
Spirit Art Festival

The Spirit of the St. Croix Art Festival at Lakefront Park is set for the weekend of September 24 and 25. We need numerous volunteers to fill shifts manning the HGC booth for a variety of shifts on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p m.

For our art activity we will be making vegetables prints with the children. This event is an opportunity for families to volunteer together, older children can help demonstrating the crafts and parents can talk with guests about the co-op.

If you are interested in helping at the HGC booth during the Art Festival days, please sign up by contacting Jacki Bradham at rbradham@pressenter.com or 715-386-3826.

Since the very beginning the HGC Board of Directors has benefited greatly from the advice and educational opportunities provided by others. As a volunteer board that has little to no direct professional experience in the retail grocery business and starting a co-op, this has been valuable and absolutely essential!

All Directors commit to participating in an education program while serving on the board. From reading articles, visiting established co-ops, and attending conferences, training is a critical part of the job.

Next month our newest directors will participate in Cooperative Board Leadership (CBL) 101. Sponsored by CDS Consulting Co-op this training provides a foundation in co-op board governance covering topics such as legal roles and cooperative principles.

As we move into our next phase of development – preparing to select a location and embarking on the capital campaign – director education and development continues to be a high priority.

Lettuce us continue to grow this cooperative!
