 THE ALIENS ARE COMING   B E N  U F O

“The more I do it, the more accurately it reflects who I am.” Ben Thomson is the first to admit (multiple times) that he’s very lucky to be where he is. Not everyone has the good fortune to possess the talent required to move beyond mere competence with a medium insofar as to superimpose a piece of yourself on to the fruits of your labour. It’s one thing to choose to play music as an outlet, but being able to project your own personality through the way you handle others’ records and to make it about the thought, care and skill that go into moving a dancefloor rather than the act of moving it is entirely different. His career DJing as Ben UFO started coming together regularly with the Ruffage Sessions on Sub.FM in early 2007, and over the years his increasing confidence and proficiency are becoming just as evident on the listener’s end. This transparency has not gone unnoticed and contributes to his esteemed reputation which takes him to a different corner of the globe every weekend of the year! The UFO heads to Potato Head's Sun Down Circle on Sunday Sept 11 armed with his muchly talked about music collection. Not to be missed both the show and the catch up before he hits town. #thealiensarecoming
 REALITY CHECK  BLOCK PARTY

It took a reality check to break Bloc Party. The pioneering UK indie art rock group had slowly started to dismantle in the latter half of 2013 when drumming virtuoso Matt Tong announced his departure. But it wasn’t until March 2015, midway through writing new material for their fifth album, that bassist Gordon Moakes exited stage left, and the band’s new reality set in. With only lead singer Kele Okereke and guitarist Russell Lissack remaining, Bloc Party were forced to confront the question of what really gives a musical group its identity. Want to know how they survived & reinvented themselves ahead of this weeks show at Soundrenaline? We sure did! Check out the interview and get up to GWK this weekend.

ENRIC SANGIULIANO
M O O N  R O C K S
Hot on the heels of the A-Sides Volume 5 compilation, Enrico Sangiuliano makes his return to Drumcode with his highly anticipated EP ‘Moon Rocks’. The heavy hitting four track EP shines a light on Sangiuliano’s tight, thundering production skills. The hoover heavy lead track ‘Moon Rocks’ is packed with booming percussion, intricate synths and brooding crescendos. The EP encapsulates Sangiuliano’s wide spectrum of sounds ranging from the fat bass line of ‘Moon Rocks’ to the more delicate harmonies shown within the ‘Dutch Kiss’ mixes whilst ‘Ghettoblaster’ sits somewhere in between. Straight into the Beatport top 10 and straight into all our listening devices here at Bali Clubbing HQ. DRW 11/10.

 DE LA SOUL
A N O N Y M O U S  N O B O D Y
Following an overwhelmingly popular crowdsourcing campaign, De La Soul’s latest album reaffirms a tradition of boundlessly imaginative hip-hop. The veteran trio manages to spin childlike hilarity and forlorn insight into songs that revel in psych rock, disco-funk breaks and live instrumentation. De La’s immunity to dullness is mirrored in the eclectic guest list—the icing on an album that turns musical ambition into a dizzyingly fun ride. With artists like Snoop Dog, Usher and 2Chains just a part of the collaborations on this album you know De La Soul are back in 2016 and about to educate a whole new generation of hip hop enthusiasts globally! BIG DRW 5*****
OPEN UP THE TREASURE CHEST  ALISON WONDERLAND
Groundbreaking aussie producer & vodka aficionado Alison Wonderland has been praised by everyone from Annie Mac to Diplo, touting her as “one of the best DJs from Australia.” Her debut five-track EP sat comfortably at the top of the iTunes charts, racking up two million streams across her Soundcloud and mass hysteria among her popular fanbase. Renowned for her next-level production and intricate sets, Alison Wonderland’s musical prowess extends far beyond her mixing decks. Growing up, she was a principal cellist in the Sydney Youth Orchestra and bass player in an indie rock outfit, skills, which have undoubtedly influenced the style and complexity of her productions. Hurry up September 9 the #hype is real. #treasureislandbali

Given their shared appreciation for story telling and dignified belief in the Australian identity, Harvey Miller and Monte Morgan aka Client Liaison naturally found themselves writing & sharing music together. From the studio to the top end of town, Client Liaison’s sound plays out like a long lunch followed by a round of cocktails. Describing their sonic palate as ‘dance electric’, ‘new jack swing’ and ‘pop ballad’, this multi sensory experience will satisfy any listeners’ hunger for appetite.
