HARTFORD AND NEW BRITAIN, CONN. (August 30, 2016) — Tickets are now on sale at concora.org for the 2016 edition of ClavierFest, a lively concert of keyboard and vocal music by J.S. Bach and his contemporaries presented by CONCORA’s Friends of Bach auxiliary. The concert will take place on Friday, September 23, 2016, at 7:30 PM, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 120 Sigourney Street, in Hartford, Connecticut. A hands-on demonstration of the keyboard instruments, The Keyboards of Bach, takes place on Saturday, September 24, 2016, from 10 AM to noon, also at Trinity Episcopal Church. CORRECTION NOTE: An earlier release had an incorrect date for The Keyboards of Bach event; the correct date is September 24, 2016, from 10AM to noon.
In the ClavierFest concert on September 23, keyboardists Edward Clark and Christa Rakich, with guest artist Stephen Gamboa, will be joined by Andrea LeBlanc (transverse flute), Emily Hale (Baroque violin), Alice Robbins (viola da gamba), and Thomas Buckley, countertenor, to perform music by three members of the Bach family and George Philip Telemann.
The program includes several selections by J.S. Bach: the Violin Sonata No. 4 in f minor (BWV 1018); “Sonata sopr' il soggetto reale” and “Ricercar à 6” from the Musical Offering (BWV 1079); and the Sinfonia and an aria, “Stirb in mir,” both from Cantata BWV 169, Gott soll allein mein Herze haben. Two other members of the Bach family are represented with the Flute sonata in D major (1747) by Carl Philip Emmanuel Bach and the Sonata No. 4 in C major (four hands) by Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach. The program opens with the Sonata in F (harpsichord) by Georg Philip Telemann.
The keyboard music will be performed on reproductions of Baroque-period keyboard instruments including harpsichords, organ, lautenwerk (a rarely-heard lute-harpsichord with a unique sound) and clavichord (a small keyboard instrument with a very soft sound). The instruments are hand-crafted by expert makers, with beautiful carvings and painted decorations that enhance the musical experience.

Keyboard experts Edward Clark and Christa Rakich invite music lovers of all ages to The Keyboards of Bach, a free, fun-filled, close-up, hands-on opportunity to explore, experience, and enjoy several different types of keyboard instruments that were played in the 17th and 18th centuries by Johann Sebastian Bach and his contemporaries.
Participants will have an opportunity to learn about and play the different instruments, including harpsichords, organ, lautenwerk (a lute-harpsichord with a unique sound, rarely heard) and clavichord (a small keyboard instrument with a very soft sound). The instruments are hand-crafted by expert makers, with beautiful carvings and painted decorations that enhance the musical experience.
The event is FREE with advance registration.
