'The Billion Pound Flower Market' will be shown on Channel 4 Monday 5th September at 8pm. We have another hour of prime time featuring our sector! Click here or on the image link to Channel 4.
The BFA assisted the programme makers with details of the British Industry, whilst our friends at the Flower Council of Holland have also assisted to gain access to the Royal FloraHolland Auctions Houses in Holland, traders, wholesalers, made market introductions, and recommended industry experts within the sector (both UK and European-based).
We reported some time back how the BFA helped with gathering volunteers that worked on the larger-than-life floral installation outside the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square. Art was brought to life with 26,430 real flowers in support of their Dutch Flowers exhibition, unveiled on 2nd June this year. This will be featured on the programme as Films of Record followed them for 3 days capturing the construction of this epic piece. The consumer-facing brand Funnyhowflowersdothat.co.uk, was used to offer a big UK relevant event for the programme to really help the industry shine. So don't forget to set your reminders and recorders so you don't miss this.
Welcome To Our New Editor
We're delighted to announce that Katie Bennett will be joining the BFA team as the new Editor of our BFA magazine and couldn’t be more perfect for the position.
Katie is no stranger to the flower world having been born into a thriving and successful family florist shop: Flowers by Nattrass, where she grew up stipping roses and wiring gerberas.
After completing 3 years at university gaining a Journalism degree, Katie realised that flowers made up a big part of her DNA, and she needed to get back to them!
Now, after 2 years working as a florist as well as for Strelitzia Software, a family business that helps florists control the day-to-day running of their shops, Katie is bringing her roots, experience, passion and expertise for the florist industry to the BFA magazine.
So as you can see we’re extremely fortunate to have Katie take over the reins and bring a fresh approach to the magazine.
We’re most grateful to Muir who has been editor of the magazine since 2013 and part of the BFA Board since for around 20 years, thank you Muir for the countless things you’ve done.
DID YOU KNOW?
That the BFA Training and Education Committee are currently putting together an Expression of Interest in order to put in a Bid for the Trailblazer Apprenticeship in floristry.
This Apprenticeship will be written by employers for employers who will ensure that they get the type and quality of training required for their shops.

Grand Parents Day - Make it work for your Business!
We've all heard about GrandParent day, but how many British Florists have really used it as an opportunity to promote the giving of gift flowers?
Grandparents Day has gradually conquered the hearts of almost all Europeans and to commemorate their special role, the date of the 2nd October has been chosen in order to emphasise the important function of grandparents within the family – and society as a whole.
Grandmothers and fathers are priceless in so many ways, they go far beyond the role of simply spoiling their grandchildren, they're a more and more precious resource for the daily organisation of many families, often even helping financially. So we can rightly assume that they deserve special attention, and there is no present as symbolic as a beautiful flowers. Giving flowers represents the special and unique bond between grandparents and grandchildren - now we need to get the message out to the parents and grandchildren of the UK.
