Emma Hamilton: Seduction and Celebrity, opens 3 November, NMM.
This unique exhibition looks at the remarkable yet tragic life of the mistress who captured the heart of England’s hero, Horatio Nelson, and in turn became one of the most famous international celebrities of her time. Captivating Europe with her beauty and achievements, Emma was feted by kings and queens and became the muse to many artists, only to end her dying days in Calais having being imprisoned for debt after Nelson’s death. The exhibition brings together over 200 objects, including two major collections loaned by private collectors from the USA.

2017 International Patrons Tour - A Polar Voyage
Inspired by the forthcoming Polar Worlds gallery at the National Maritime Museum the international tour for 2017 will journey north to follow in the footsteps of the great polar explorers. It will begin in Oslo, exploring the rich artistic and cultural history of this Viking capital, before venturing beyond the Arctic Circle to the city of Tromsø. A highlight of the stay in Oslo will be a private evening visit to the Fram Museum, where Patrons will view the Gjøa, the first ship to navigate the whole of the Northwest Passage, and dine on board Roald Amundsen's historic Fram. After an internal flight and visit to Tromsø, guests will board Hurtigruten's MS Finnmarken and sail north through a dramatic winter landscape to Kirkenes, which lies within reach of the Russian border, the only point in Norway where East meets West. Hurtigruten have been operating passenger voyages since 1893 and are a vital link between coastal communities. Patrons will glean expert insights into the science and art of the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, enjoy on-board lectures with the Museum's own curators and (weather permitting) marvel at this natural phenomenon during the two nights on the ship.
