MESSAGE FROM THE CENTER DIRECTOR, CIARÁN Ó CUINN
In recent months MEDRC has spent considerable efforts assisting the urgent efforts to provide water for Gaza. The provision of a clean, secure and dependable water supply to the population of Gaza is the single most important water project on earth right now.

In cooperation with our colleagues in the Palestinian Water Authority and the Coastal Municipality Water Utility, MEDRC conducted an intensive technical support mission focused on the Deir Al Balah Desalination Plant. This mission included training in trouble shooting and non-routine maintenance as well as plant inspections.

In May we conducted a joint workshop for the agencies involved in both the Gaza Desalination and Red Sea Dead Sea projects. Held in Ramallah, Palestine and Aqaba, Jordan, the participants focused on the challenges and techniques of high-level tendering facing government agencies involved in large scale water project tendering.

In addition, we were delighted to support Dr. Husam Al Najar and three of his colleagues at the Islamic University, Gaza in their vital work on the 'Planning and Primary Design of a Wastewater Treatment Plant for Al-Shifa Hospital.'

In Muscat, at MEDRC headquarters, we have almost completed the construction of a series of evaporation ponds. Working together with colleagues at Sultan Qaboos University, we will use these ponds for experiments on environmental brine disposal and for training. This is the final stage in our plan to provide working showcase in environmentally sound desalination here in the Gulf. Shortly, using the power of the sun alone we will power our desalination processes and deal with the brine.

Finally, we were delighted to sign a MoU with the University of Barcelona, one of Europe’s leading research universities.

We would like this newsletter to provide a short and accessible overview of our work and partnerships, if you have any comments on the newsletter or if you have any ideas of partnerships or new projects please don't hesitate to get in touch.

MEDRC Technical Workshop on Renewable Energy & Desalination in the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus
