Welcome to our fourth edition! Autumn semester has started and GLOMUS activities are picking up speed!

GLOMUS Camp 2017 is growing!

The individual registrations have been coming in and we are happy to announce that we already have participants of 25 nationalities on board! Camp 2017 will be more interdisciplinary than ever with nearly 20 participants from theatre/dance in addition to the richness of great musicians. In total we are expecting 150 participants to Brazil making it also the biggest on record.

The local organisers in Natal are working hard fixing the programme, locations and events.

In the meantime, you can get into Camp spirit through Camp 2015 blog and keep up with Camp 2017 updates on the Glomus website!

GLOMAS comes from around the globe

This semester we welcomed 7 new students to the Nordic Master of Global Music (GLOMAS) programme at The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus and Sibelius Academy University of the Arts, Helsinki. The new students from Bulgaria, Finland, Italy, Iran and Norway will join the 2. year students from America, Colombia, Denmark, Ireland, Latvia and Tanzania.
Sibelius Academy also welcomed 8 new students from China, Iran, Greece, Finland and Sami Lapland who are the first students to start the new Bachelor of Global Music!

GLOMAS goes around the globe

During this year, GLOMAS students have taken field trips to Mali, Israel, Palestine, India, Bulgaria and Tanzania as part of their studies.
During these trips students have been carrying out their own research, taking lessons and also teaching in the communities. Field trips also aim to connect to the GLOMUS network, providing opportunities for exchange, knowledge sharing and capacity building during the time in-between GLOMUS Camps.
Please let us know if your institution would like to receive a visit from a GLOMAS student in the future!

NB! GLOMAS auditions in Natal

We are offering a special opportunity to audition for the GLOMAS Master programme during the GLOMUS Camp in Natal!
The audition date will be January 9, 2017, which is the day before the Camp begins. Please keep this in mind when thinking about which of your students are able to attend the Camp! Interested applicants will need to fill out an application form and complete small pre-audition assignments.
Please contact Nathan Thomson, lead lecturer for the GLOMAS programme at Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki for further information.

Cooperation with Palestine Continues

Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus has been lucky to have an extension of their collaboration with Edward Said Conservatory of Music in Jerusalem, funded by the Danish House in Palestine.
In November RAMA will host seven students from Palestine. Together with the Danish students, they will work on recordings and concerts with Palestinian/Nordic fusion sound. Plans are underway for a celebration of Palestinian culture in Aarhus where both the guests from ESCM, RAMA students, Danish primary school children and local "Danish" Palestinians will perform. This will be a unique week of deep personal connections and fantastic music making!
In spring, RAMA students will again visit Palestine in return. In addition to Jerusalem and Ramallah, the concerts will this time take place in Hebron and Nablus.

Mali & Denmark went upside down!

Music, dance and vocal students from Denmark, Mali, Netherlands and Sweden joined forces with Malian master musicians at a "fabulous border breaking show" during the Aarhus Festival. Led by a small group of students who have been studying at the Conservatoire des Arts of Bamako, they performed the proud musical tradition of Mali, simultaneously turning the music a little "upside down" by adding elements of Western pop/jazz. The leading Danish music magazine GAFFA gave the concert five stars out of five! *****
