RISE Impact
Back To School
The RISE Team had an awesome time at the APS Back to School Kickoff event on August 6. There was so much energy in the air as students and families visited their school's tables, got free vaccinations, learned about community organizations, and dunked their principals in the dunk tank. Thanks, APS, for starting off the school year with a great community event!
First Day of School
The first day of school is such a fun and exciting time. It was a treat to welcome back students on their first day. The RISE Team greeted students with smiles, words of encouragement, and, of course, posters! We want school to be a place of happiness and learning for students and any way we can help our neighboring schools create that environment, we are IN!
Jamaica CDC Fourth Year of Partnership
Things are off to a great start at partner school Jamaica Child Development Center (JCDC) where we're going into our fourth year of partnership. We've kicked things off with workshop planning for the JCDC staff Community Asset Mapping session we'll be leading, then a luncheon with RISE updates, and a Meet and Greet for students and families. Excited for all the amazing work we'll accomplish together this year as we educate, engage, and empower families to rise as change agents for educational equity.  We also joined Jamaica CDC staff in welcoming students and families on Back to School night.  Its never to early to start promoting awareness for our first workshop at Jamaica CDC on September 28!
Burmese Workshop Kick-Off
The Burmese community gathered for their first workshop of the new school year.  Families came together to learn about the opportunity gap that exists in our education system and how they can overcome the current statistics to ensure their children receive an excellent education. The workshop was held in Karen and Burmese languages and encompassed families from across the APS Innovation Zone.
Molina Foundation Book Grant
A HUGE thank you to the Molina Foundation and their wonderful volunteers for bringing 60,000 new books to schools and community organizations in the Denver Metro area. RISE was SO excited to pick up our 1,000+ new books! Resources like these are crucial to beating the summer slide and for jumping back into the new school year. Get ready Aurora because these books are coming your way!
Aspen Institute
CEO, Veronica Palmer, was invited to be part of a Summer Education workshop at the Aspen Institute. The topic of the workshop was "The State Role in Ensuring Equity in Education." Veronica had the opportunity to meet and engage with education leaders from across the country to discuss this critical and pressing issue.
GIFT Conference
RISE Director of Operations, Emily, had a fantastic time at the bi-annual Grassroots Institute for Fundraising Training conference, Money for Our Movements.  Many thanks to the General Service Foundation for providing this opportunity to RISE through a generous scholarship they offered.  Opportunities for continued learning and growth are essential to staying on the cutting edge of best fundraising practices.
Pahara Next Gen Fellowship
CEO, Veronica Palmer, completed her Pahara Next Gen Fellowship. She had an incredible fellowship experience with other education leaders of color from across the nation. She learned a lot and is grateful for the leadership development and opportunities she was provided to reflect and think deeply about the work of ending educational inequity.
RISE In the News
This month RISE was featured in:

Rose Community Foundation Newsletter, Connections: Education Committee grants approach Aurora school innovation from different angles: RCF explores the importance of community organizations' involvement in the Innovation Zone Plans and increasing family engagement with those plans.
Congratulations to RISE Community Organizer, Hari Uprety! He released his album Karuna at Aurora Central HS that contains beautiful Nepali songs he wrote. Famous performers from Nepal flew in for the concert, Nepali Sangitik Sanjh. It was an incredible honor when Hari recognized RISE Colorado for our work with the Nepali community. It was an amazing event and we're so proud of Hari. He's been nominated for best song back in Nepal and we hope he wins!
