The David Brower Center is pleased to announce its full event program in coordination with 2016 Art/Act: The Canary Project Award & Exhibition.  In the spirit of David Brower’s message of “art of advocacy,” the Brower Center has curated a series of insightful and inspiring programs focused on protecting and honoring the planet we call home. Included among the events are film screenings by Harvey Richards and Edward Burtynsky, a youth poster workshop presented by The Canary Project and partners, and a music performance by composer Alvin Curran.

Art/Act: The Canary Project Opening Reception & Artist Talk

The creators of The Canary Project, artists Susannah Sayler and Edward Morris will discuss their work in a public lecture presented as part of the opening reception.

Bay Day Film Screening: Warning Warning and Watermark
Presented in partnership with Save The Bay

To celebrate the first annual Bay Day, enjoy a screening of Warning Warning - a 1970 short film by Harvey Richards to help build support for the Save the Bay movement - and Watermark - a feature-length documentary by Edward Burtynsky that brings together diverse stories from around the globe about our relationship with water.

Vote Our Planet Youth Poster Workshop

Presented with The Canary Project, Creative Action Network, and Patagonia, this workshop will focus on the Vote Our Planet political poster campaign. Youth will design posters with assistance from teacher/artist, Kristi Holohan, that may be printed and displayed as part of The Canary Project’s exhibition.

3D Ocean Farming: Kelp, Carbon and a Vibrant Future
Presented in partnership with Nutiva and GreenWave

In partnership with Nutiva and Bren Smith from Greenwave, Bren tells his story of ecological redemption - from commercial fisherman to restorative ocean farmer - and describes the replicable design and future vision of his 3D ocean farming model.

The Nature of Music: Alvin Curran
Presented in partnership with Other Minds
Sunday 11/20

Tickets: $15, $12 students and teachers
Named one of the “Major Figures in American Music” by Yale, Alvin Curran’s music makes use of environmental found sounds and collaborative installation pieces.
