A message from the Board Chairman

August, 2016

By Jeff Walla, Board Chair

It’s hard to believe how fast the summer has flown by and for some in New Hampshire there is already a touch of fall in the air.  The summer of 2016 has been our busiest season by far.  All of our program locations have delivered more programming to more participants increasing the impact on our youth as they embark on another school year.  Thank you to all of our parents getting your children to program sessions, to our multitude of coaches, staff and volunteers for the great work you do with our children and to our many supporters who help make it possible for us to bring our unique programming to communities throughout New Hampshire.  Over the coming weeks we will be conducting a survey of parents of participants asking for your feedback about our programs.  We welcome your feedback as it helps us to improve upon our programs for the coming year.  Please look for the survey in your email in the coming weeks.

PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENTS

TFTNH's Newest Site

This past spring an existing youth golf program in Claremont, NH, aptly named Dody’s Kids, became a part of our First Tee of New Hampshire family. Even though this was a thriving program in numbers of participants, they knew that their children would benefit immensely by integrating The First Tee’s qualitative delivery emphasized by our Core Values and Life Skills. Truly, the success of “Dody’s Kids” is because of a caring community that contributes in any way each can because they value their children and they believe that golf along with caring mentors delivering First Tee philosophy is a creative way to nurture their young people. Yes, and all the while having fun.

Dody Belski, the founder of Dody’s Kids, was a longtime advocate and teacher of youth golf in Claremont for several decades until her death in 2008. Not only did she teach many parents of the current participants, she was involved in the nurturing of successful LPGA Legends, Jane Blalock and Pat Bradley. Dody’s simple philosophy is: “Think on the putting green.  Think on the driving range. Don’t Think on the golf course, just enjoy the game.” Impressed and inspired by Dody’s vision for keeping golf available and fun for children of all ages, Marie Allen Pitorino continued this program which now enlists 50 young golfers ranging in ages from 5-13, and the fee to play is free. Marie knows that any charge would restrict those who most need this program from participating. So our most heartfelt thanks go out to the generosity of an entire community which includes: volunteer coaches, several who are former Dody’s kids; Brian and Becky Stowell, whose support is both financial and as coaches; Claremont Country Club, who reserves the entire 9 holes for the kids when the program is there; and Peter Harris, who owns and operates Fore U golf center in West Lebanon (another First Tee of NH location). Peter hosts Dody’s kids every other Monday when they travel by bus in order to experience a different location teeming with fun golf activities.

CLUB  DONATIONS  TO  SUPPORT  TFTNH

The First Tee of NH is always looking for donations of quality, unwanted golf clubs. Youth or adult clubs in new or near-new condition are accepted. Iron sets from major manufacturers (Taylor Made, Ping, Titleist, Callaway, Mizuno, Cobra etc.) bring the most value.  Drivers, fairway metals and hybrids are also of great value. Adult clubs are sold for cash to fund the programs. Youth clubs are supplied to participants who do not have clubs or are used in the teaching sessions.

Stop by our office to drop off clubs or just give us a call at 603-964-3033 to arrange for club drop off.
