FALL 2016 PROGRAMS

The challenges and excitement of a new school year, the crispness in the air that precedes the change of seasons, the hints of upcoming festivities  --  September is here with all the changes and opportunities it brings. Look for changes in some of the storytime scheduling, and be sure to register for the programs appropriate to your child’s age.

Full STEAM Ahead and Fan Fridays will return. Pizza and Pages is a new book group for third - fifth graders. Little Foodies will be back, and young cooks who have outgrown Little Foodies will be able to attend Kitchen Lab.

New this year is SENSE-ational Story Time for differently-able children ages 3 – 10.  Also, we will hold a special needs focus group to listen to your ideas about how we can expand our services to our differently-able patrons.

Learn how to use digital e-books and e-audio books at Digital Reads. Origami Library card holders may be made throughout the month of September.

September 14 – 28 is the annual diaper drive; please help with donations of diapers to benefit the babies served by HAVEN.

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that you can be an art detective? Look for the display on top of the bookcase under the Bloomfield Bears. Each flier features a specific piece of art and has questions to help you examine the art carefully. You can explore the artwork throughout the department (have you met Freddie, the dragon created as an altered book project?) and make a craft by cutting and pasting to create a souvenir art cube.

PRESIDENTS AND ELECTIONS

Last month we looked in the 700s for books on sports; this month we will shift our interest to the political realm. Books on social sciences are classified into the 300s. History and geography books are in the 900s. More specifically, you can find books on the American political process under 324, and books on the history of the United States have the call number 973. If the presidential campaigns have inspired an interest in how the system works or its historical background, you can find information here!
