 Summer 2016 Update

Before we dive into the holiday weekend, we're reaching out to update you on a few amazing projects and one special event. Our annual golf outing is only a few weeks away and you can still get involved. We also have inspirational field reports from our work in Costa Rica and central Indiana. So, please read on and thanks for being part of the BarnRaiser family. We appreciate your support and so do the young people that you help us serve. We look forward to seeing you soon.
LATEST NEWS FROM BARNRAISERS
Teeing It Up to Serve Others: On Sept. 19th, hundreds of golfers, sponsors and volunteers will be at our Fifth Annual Golf Outing to support at risk children and young adults. Thanks to their generosity, we’ll raise $60k or more to help Chaucie’s Place and Purchased prevent child sex abuse, human trafficking and youth suicide. Funds will also support the building of new orphanage cottages for our friends in Fondwa, Haiti.

Wolf Run will host again this year and big thanks go out to our title sponsors – Irving Materials, Inc. and CTS Cement Manufacturing Corp. and to our master sponsors including: Dan Brunnett, Pepper Construction, US Foods, WestPoint Financial Group and Wildman Business Group. Click here to read more about the outing and how you and/or your organizations can still get involved. If you can’t make the outing, but you’d like to support our causes, please consider making a donation online.

Bringing Hope to Costa Rica: Earlier this year, Barnraisers raised and distributed $30k in two Costa Rican communities. We funded, from the ground up, the building of a community center in the indigenous BriBri village of Dururpe. This area is impoverished and some families live 2.5 hours into the jungle and lack medical access, sanitation and education. The community center will serve as a daycare, health center and infant and pediatric care center.

To reach the community, we drove in a van and then crossed a river and rode horses into the village. The locals welcomed us with open arms and showed us how to make chocolate and weave roofs for their houses. We celebrated the community center with lunch served in banana leaves and sampled a local drink - Chicha.

We also spent two service days in the town of Puerto Veijo where we helped paint walls at a local school, sand and stain desks and clean up  their playgrounds. Thanks to our generous donors for making this work possible.

Addressing Food Insecurity: Mike Sheek (BR Board Member) and his wife have volunteered at The Lord’s Pantry for years. Recently, several BarnRaisers joined them to help stock and staff the organization’s Saturday morning food pantry.

We distributed fresh produce, meat and bread to nearly 300 people in need in the Stringtown neighborhood west of downtown Indy. And we were even able to join other volunteers in singing happy birthday to guests turning another year older that weekend.

The Lord’s Pantry is an impressive operation. If you’re interested in volunteering and/or donating to support their mission, you can learn more here.
