I want to thank everyone for making our first week of school at Bishop’s Peak such a positive start to the school year. A special welcome to the new students and families that have joined the Bishop's peak community. Our students and teachers have established routines that will set the ground work for a successful year.
In the afternoon, please do not park on our curb prior to 2:50. As cars back up, we are impacting our Jaycee neighborhood. This area is a loading/unloading zone and parked cars are subject to a ticket.
Tomorrow night is our Back-To-School night at Bishop's Peak. I invite you to attend our general assembly time and your classroom presentations. Schedule for this evening is attached.
This school year all of our classrooms are using reading curriculum that was adopted by our school district last spring. As we implement this new curriculum, we are maintaining our focus on independent reading goals and we ask for your partnership in keeping oral language a focus as well. I wanted to share the following of excerpt from our curriculum:
When you read you don't begin with, A, B, C, but with developing a solid sense of story. Increasing it seems as if many children haven't had lots of experience spinning their lives into threads of story. How many are growing up with family suppers filled with shared stories? How many are being asked, "What did you do in school?" and nudged to tell the stories in more detail. "Wait, how did that start? What exactly happened? More and more, it seems that instead of sitting at the kitchen table and regaling parents and caretakers with accounts of the hamster getting loose, the toilet overflowing, the dragonfly that flew into their classroom, many children today are plugging themselves into video games, the television, the computer, the cell phone.
Again, thank you for your support and we look forward to a great year.
