New SALT Speakers Series Has Regional Focus

The Superstition Area Land Trust (SALT) will once again be offering its popular Speakers Series on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays, October through April, from 6:30-7:30 PM at the Apache Junction Multigenerational Center, 1035 N Idaho Rd.

Co-sponsored with the AJ Parks and Recreation Department, the theme for this year’s series will be “The Superstitions: Part of the Whole”. Emphasis will be on the larger ecoregion of which the Superstition are a part, and on the critical linkages or corridors, that connect local communities with one other.

The presentations are free and geared to the general public. So come early and often to learn about the fascinating flora and fauna, geology, human history, open spaces and recreational opportunities that make our region so unique.

SALT is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to conserve the natural Sonoran Desert open spaces surrounding the Superstition Wilderness Area for this and future generations. Visit www.azsalt.org to learn more about who we are and how you can help make a difference.

 Guided Hike at Silly Mountain
October 2 | 7:30 AM

Let's get out on the trail as the fall season starts up.  Join SALT leader Bonny Knowlton and other SALT volunteers in a leisurely hike on the Silly Mountain Trails.  If you are a SALT Trail Steward or Pathfinder this is a great way to start the hiking season, meet up with friends, and make new ones.

If you are not a SALT volunteer and would like to learn more about SALT and how to get involved, then come to the trail head and check out what we are about.  We will have an informational table set up so you can  pick up SALT brochures and a friendly volunteer will be available to answer questions. If you would like to join in for a hike please meet at the Silly Mountain Trailhead by 7:30 AM.  If you will be hiking, please bring water, and wear comfortable clothing applicable to the weather conditions.  Also, good sturdy shoes, no sandals please.

Directions:  Silly Mountain Park is located at mile marker #200, just off US 60.  If you are coming from the west you will need to turn North at Mountain View Road, drive about 1/4 mile to E. 32nd Ave. (first street which turns to the right), go another 1/4 mile to Silly Mountain Road and turn right, follow this road to Silly Mountain Park parking lot.
