Annual Giving Campaign

Direct Appeal is now called "Annual Giving" and is being run by the Foundation. Look for the donation form that came home in your child's Blue Folder.

On the donation form you'll find a summary of where our funds are spent. It costs $375 per child for a whole year of all the enrichment programs that are provided to every child at Madera. That's around $1 per day per child. Please contribute to these valuable programs today. Place your completed donation form, along with your contribution in the secure wall mounted box in the school's office. For recurring payments, use PayPal's website.

SSC / ELAC

Please consider running for the School Site Council or ELAC Committee.

The School Site Council (SSC) is composed of the school principal and a group of school and community members, selected by their peers, representing all segments of the school community for the common goal of supporting student success. The SSC does this by developing and monitoring the implementation of the school’s plan known as the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA).

Parents of English Learners (those whose first language is other than English) have the opportunity to participate in an English Learner Advisory Committee, or ELAC. The ELAC is made up of 5 to 10 parents who are elected by the parents of ELs at the school.  This group meets regularly with the principal and/or other school staff to develop plans and programs to support students and their families.

Currently, there are several openings on our SSC and ELAC.  If you’re interested in being a part of these important groups, please complete the SSC/ELAC Declaration To Run form at the bottom of this page, and return to the office by Friday, September 9.  Election ballots will be published the following week and elections will last until September 20.

Ms. Makela's Message

The start of the school year is such an exciting time! With lots of new things to learn, new people to meet, familiar friends, wonderful school traditions… we come to each year with anticipation of what the year will hold.  Sixty years ago at this time, the school building was being finished, in anticipation for the students who would come in early 2017. Though much has changed over the years, the strong sense of community and commitment to creating a wonderful place for children to learn and grow remains a hallmark of our school community.

Read how Ms. Makela plans to incorporate Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, Caring School Community Curriculum, Visual Thinking Strategies and other programs to help enrich the education of Madera students.
