Robbery in Cheylesmore
Extra from a report by Coventry Police from their facebook group
Later that day two men turned up at a property in Cheylesmore and claimed they were from social services.
The men asked for two £5 notes in exchange for a £10 note. After they had gone the pensioner discovered cash had been stolen from a cupboard and out of his wallet.
Officers believe the burglaries were carried out by the same suspects and are urging residents to report anything suspicious.
One of the suspects has been described as white man, 35-years-old, 6ft tall and slim. He had neat, dark blonde hair and was clean shaven. He was wearing smart, dark coloured trousers, smart dark shoes, and a long sleeved white and pale blue checked shirt.
A second man is described as white, 50-years-old of large build with a large round face and pale blue eyes. He was clean shaven and had thin, dark blonde, combed back hair and wore dark trousers and a black and grey checked blazer coat.
It is believed the offenders were using a grey new style Hyundai i30.

Ebbw Vale Terrace - Sheltered Housing Block Update
Extracts from an email to Roger from Kevin Roach, Director of Regeneration at Whitefriars:

I can confirm that the demolition of the block has now been completed and the site has been top soiled and seeded, we will monitor the site to ensure that the seeding does take root.

I do appreciate that you may well get many enquiries about the site, now it is demolished, and am more than happy to meet with any constituents to discuss their enquiry or indeed review my confidentiality request.

Fires in Wooded Area by Whitley Common
Back in May, Roger informed officers of a resident’s concerns for the wooded area behind Black Prince Avenue. Someone had been cutting down trees here & clearing shrubs. All of the material was being piled up, which the resident felt was a potential fire hazard.
Roger reported this to officers but nothing was done about it.

At a recent surgery the resident informed us that his fears had come true. This is the email that Roger sent to officers and from which he’s awaiting a response:
There have been two fires now in the wooded area behind the houses in Black Prince Avenue and off Leaf Lane, started by lighted fuel. In actual fact the fire brigade have had to be called out, but they had a problem. They could not reach the fire with their vehicles, the edging of Leaf Lane was now too high and they could not get access from Park Paling. So they had to use beaters to try and put the fires out.

On noticing the stacked tree branches in the wood, which I believe you seem to think is ok, the fire brigade officer said it was a major fire hazard and a disaster waiting to happen, especially as they cannot get fire engines to the scene. I have suggested this is an issue in the past but you seem to dismiss it as such and seem to only be concerned with finding the guy who has done it all.

Might I now suggest that you take this on-board as with all the good weather we have had recently, anything might happen? I look forward to your response.

Roger Out and About
On Saturday, Roger and Pauline visited the Whitley Juniors Football Club fete held in the Scout’s Hut, off Abbey Road. Some players and coaches live on Stonehouse and Whitley Estates. Money raised is going towards keeping this very important scheme active. Unfortunately the weather hampered their outdoor activities and we learnt too late that it was taking place to include in last week’s update. (If you're having an event then please do let us know.)

Afterwards we went to the Donkey Derby at the War Memorial Park. Again the heavy rain affected the attendance. But those who did brave it had plenty to see and experience.
The stall ‘Tools with a Mission’ interested us. It was run by people who repair and recycling unwanted tools, for use in Southern Africa. If you have tools, especially sewing and knitting machines, that you no longer need, then please contact them. They have a tool shed for donations at the Coventry waste disposal centre on the London Road and another in Binley. For further details visit their website

Dinosaurs take up residence in Baginton Fields
During a recent visit to Baginton Fields, Roger & Pauline visited the “Dinosaur Land”.

Company Car Parking in Abbey Road
Roger received this after passing on the photo of the company car parked in Abbey Road
Hi Roger,
First one for ages!
I know the person concerned so I will personally speak to him. He is a fairly new employee so it's possible/likely that he is oblivious to the background to all this and the problems we had.....

Leave with me.
April.

Garage Block in Foresters Road
Last week, Roger was contacted by a resident in Foresters Road, in regards to damage to a garage in the block at the end of the road. He was also informed that it had recently been daubed in graffiti.

Whitefriars were contacted and within 3 days they carried out a temporary repair to make it safe.

Roger has since learnt that these garages are no longer being used and soon will be knocked down, which will remove the eyesore and the “canvass” for future graffiti.

Travis Perkins on Whitley Business Park
Several residents have asked when the Travis Perkins warehouses are going to be used.
Complaints have also been received about their security lights being really bright which will certainly cause a nuisance when the trees shed their leaves.

As yet Roger hasn’t received any replies to his emails.

Warwick Road - Station Access Works Update
From Julie Fairbrother,
Work on the station access is progressing well and remains on schedule. But from 1stSeptember we will be making some small changes to allow National Grid to complete their work. We have chosen to allow National Grid in now rather than later so that we avoid them needing to dig up newly resurfaced road and pavement.

In order to accommodate them there will be some additional pedestrian management for a period of two to three weeks. There won't be any closures but the stepped access to the Station will be reduced in width slightly.

The lane closure on the road will be extended slightly towards Michaelmas Road and this will be in place until the traffic switches to Phase 2 towards the end of September. This will mean traffic won't be able to turn right into or out of the car garage but they have been spoken to personally so they are aware.

The original phasing diagrams can be
viewed here.

A45 Stonebridge Highway Closed
From Alan Jones, Galliford Try
The A45 Stonebridge Highway eastbound will be closed between Stivichall Junction and Tollbar Roundabout for 1 night on 6 September from 8pm until 6am the following morning.

The closure is needed to ensure the safety of our workforce and the travelling public while we carry out works to the bridge joints.
