Bregman tallies 5th August HR

 Games played August 25-27, 2016

August 27 games

Houston 3B Alex Bregman bounced back strongly from two early errors, hitting a two-run home run, an RBI single, and drawing a walk in a 6-2 win over Tampa Bay. The 22-year-old rookie leads the Astros with five HRs in August, and his 17 RBIs this month rank third on the team. Thanks in part to Bregman, Houston has won seven of its last eight and has moved within 2 games of the A.L.'s second wild-card slot. Meanwhile, a 10-person panel at USA Today has named Bregman one of five finalists for the newspaper's Minor League Player of the Year award, and as of the morning of August 28, he led the voting with a 54% share. Detroit 2B Ian Kinsler went 1-for-4 with his 23rd home run, but the Angels prevailed 3-2. The first-inning shot was Kinsler's sixth leadoff shot of the season and 38th of his career. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus was ejected after arguing a called third strike against Kinsler in the 5th inning. Detroit (69-60) is one game behind Baltimore for the A.L.'s second wild-card spot.

Toronto CF Kevin Pillar went 2-for-4 with a single and a double and scored the winning run in an 8-7 win over Minnesota. The Blue Jays lead the A.L. East by one game.

Dodgers CF Joc Pederson went 0-for-3 in a 3-2 win over the Cubs. Los Angeles (72-57) leads the N.L. West by 2 games.

Milwaukee LF Ryan Braun went 0-for-4 with a walk in a 9-6 loss to Pittsburgh. He also made his second error in the past four games and third overall. Through games played August 27, Braun had a .686 slugging percentage in August, fifth-best in the National League.

Toronto reliever Scott Feldman did not play in the team's 3-2 win over the Cardinals.
