Hi Moms and Dads

This newsletter is a very important form of communication. If you do not receive one via email, please let Jane have your email so that we can send you one and if you would prefer a hard copy in your child’s pocket, please let Jane know so that we can do this for you!
A huge thank you to all those who helped out on Friday to enable the teachers and myself to go to our Conference on the weekend. It was such a good Conference and we all had a super time. Some networking, Professional Development and Educational growth.

Please remember our fundraising evening this Friday 7pm for 7.30pm-MINUTE TO WIN IT!!!!!!!!!
Also thank you for the hamper items that have come in so far. Please bring your items to the office by Wednesday this week so that we can package them for Friday evening. Thanks too for the spot prizes that have come in. Much appreciated!

Two of our teachers will be leaving us at the end of this year, resigning and retiring! We therefore have two posts going and they will be advertised in this week’s local papers this side and over the mountain. If you know of anyone looking for a teacher’s position, please ask them to send in their CV. Closing date for CV’s is Friday 9th September. Only short listed candidates will be contacted. Minimum Qualification-Level 5.

We are in desperate need of boxes for box construction with the children. Cereal boxes, small medium and large boxes. We use these every day and they are so valuable for the children to construct with. They can be brought into the Angelfish Classroom as we store them in the storeroom attached.
Paper is also always needed. It can be printed on one side. If you have any at home or have contacts at offices, please let us know. Thank you!!!

EQ: Waiting and persisting
General: Spring and Growth
Numbers: 15-20
Language: Letter Y y
I enjoyed the NAPTOSA conference on Friday and Merle assured me all went well. It is important for teachers to be informed and know what is happening in education I am therefore pleased I had the privilege to attend. Thank-you Merle and Jo for teaching the group.
Our new theme is: Spring and Growth. I regularly walk around the Silvermine Wetlands and am delighted to see the Spring flowers in bloom. I plan to take the children for a walk on Thurs 8 Sept or Fri 9 Sept- weather permitting. Please sign the indemnity form so that your child can join us on this excursion.
Last week the children participated eagerly in all the art activities and it is so good to see their drawings improving. I urge you to continue to encourage your child to use the correct pencil grip when drawing or colouring in at home.
In EQ we will continue to discuss Waiting and Persisting- When we play board games the children have to learn to share and wait for their turn. Some games are challenging and they have to try to get the right number or card.  Some children get very impatient and find this a hard task but it is good for their concentration as well as encouraging them to persevere and not give up. They often cope well when there is a teacher at the game but as soon as we move away some children lose concentration and start disrupting the group. The ability to follow instructions and to work independently and in a group are all skills required for Grade 1.
Please continue to make your child aware of number and letters in the environment.  We are playing lots of phonics games to help re-inforce initial sounds and rhyming words.
Our new Letter is Y y.  We have now learned all the letters in the alphabet and will recap the vowels and start blending letters from next week.
Skills to re-inforce at home- pencil grip, name writing, tying a shoe lace and skipping with a rope.
I have posted pictures on the closed FB page so please join and follow our group's activities.
Please take note of the following important events and functions.

SPARE CLOTHES
Please remember to pack in some spare clothes for your child each day, particularly the younger ones. The children often need to change for various reasons and it becomes a little tricky when there is nothing for them to wear!!!
FACEBOOK
We love sharing pictures from the school day. Teachers only put photos up on Facebook once a week. Any parent who does not want their child’s photos to appear on Facebook should let their teacher know. www.facebook.com/fhpps.

And on that note...

This is what I hope that I have taught my child!
“Don’t compare yourself to the rest,
All that matters is that you try your best.
You are beautiful, funny and smart,
But what’s more important is what’s in your heart!
Wealth and status mean nothing at all,
A person with love is the richest of all!”
Regards, Paula
