Since I opened my store 6 years ago in October, I get asked all of the time who my favourite winery is and what is my favourite wine...
This is a question that I love answering...because their are a lot of things to consider when I answer this question.

My answer is always this:
"I love the wineries who were visionary right from the beginning...
The ones who stayed true to what they believed in and who committed themselves to believing in the industry from day one and never selling out to the "Big Guys"...
I also love the wineries who have long term employees and are good employers...the reason for this is that is exactly what I want with my store...I want to be a good employer and keep my employees happy so they stay with me long term.
Some wineries that come to mind are Mission Hill Winery...Anthony Von Mandl had a vision and he has stuck with that vision and never looked back. He has and wants to create award-winning wines in BC and he believed in the Okanagan Valley from 1981.
Anthony is also a great employer and looking back, perhaps I should have taken that job offer at Mission Hill the day I decided to work for Summerhill.
Anthony sought out and convinced rising-star Winemaker out of New Zealand, John Simes to join Mission Hill Family Estate in 1992 just in time for Fall harvest. That vintage of Mission Hill Grand Reserve which is now the Mission Hill Reserve Chardonnay went on to in the trophy for "Best Chardonnay in the World" at the 1994 International Wine and Spirit Competition in London.
Mission Hill Family Estate has also gone on to win "The Best Pinot Noir in the World" with over 14000 wines entered with his 2011 Martin's Lane Pinot Noir.
We are pouring Mission Hill in the store Friday from 3-6pm and are featuring their new Reserve Pinot Gris (which I love)...new Reserve Viognier (another fave) new Rose (delicious), their Reserve Shiraz and their Cabernet Sauvignon.
Now that I have written about the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, we will also pour these two delicious Reserves as they are both a go to for me.

Another Top Winery for me and who we are pouring on Saturday from 3-6pm is Sperling Vineyards.
Boasting the oldest vineyard in the Okanagan, Charles Casorso planted the first vineyard in the Kelowna area in 1925. Louis and Pete planted vines on the Casorso property, where Sperling Vineyards is situated today, 5 years later. Still Family owned and operated, this tops my charts as a top contender for wineries in the Okanagan.
Growing up growing grapes, producing meats and produce, Sperling Vineyards always had a reputation for quality and production.
Ann put Cedar Creek on the world stage when in 1992, the Cedar Creek Merlot won the prestigious Gold Medal at the International Wine Awards in London.
Saturday we will celebrate another Top Winery of mine when we taste her sold out vintage (Now a Library vintage) of 2012 Organic Chardonnay and introduce their new Vision Series which is one of the most delicious Sparklings in BC, her Vision Series Brut Rose.
We will also feature brand new vintage of Speritz that just arrived in store, her 2014 Pinot Noir along with her brand new Market Red.

It's the finale weekend of summer and we are bringing you Top Wineries and Top Wines to celebrate!

My Passion is BC Wine...what's yours?
Cheers,
Kim

Mission Hill 2014 Reserve Pinot Gris $23.47 +taxes

Our 2014 Reserve Pinot Gris was sourced from three of our estate vineyards – Oliver, Mission Hill Road, and Naramata Ranch. Each vineyard has a distinct microclimate lending unique flavour characteristics to the varietal before it becomes part of the final blend. Oliver in the southeast is a diverse vineyard with a patchwork of individual blocks. Mission Hill Road has a cooler climate extending hang time and enhancing flavour development. And Naramata Ranch enjoys the lake’s moderating effect providing ideal growing conditions. A hint of freshly sliced ginger, Anjou pear, and nutmeg open up our Reserve Pinot Gris. Flavours of white peach, grapefruit, and zesty lime round out this full-bodied and aromatic wine. A relatively short and delicate aging on the lees in French oak maintains the wine’s crisp and dry nature. Pairs well with poultry, salmon, risotto and mushroom quiche.

Sperling 2012 Chardonnay $26.95 +taxes

CERTIFIED ORGANIC~LIBRARY VINTAGE!
Hand harvested and carefully sorted bunches were fermented in large format French oak barrels to integrate classic character with minerality and structure that distinguish our spectacular, limestone rich slopes. The resulting wine is balanced with finesse. Another winner from worldly renowned winemaker Ann Sperling.

NWAC MEDAL WINNER

“This wine was aged in big oak puncheons. Ann would have preferred used white wine barrels. When none were available, she opted for new puncheons because the wine would pick up less oak from the larger vessels. The strategy worked brilliantly. This has the brightness and freshness of Chablis, with apple and melon flavours and with a fine backbone of minerals. 90-91.- John Schreiner”
