THE 2016 EDWARD SAID MEMORIAL LECTURE
Saturday, 15 October, 5:00pm
Elder Hall, University of Adelaide, North Terrace, Adelaide

AFOPA is pleased to advise you that this year’s Edward Said Memorial Lecture (ESML) entitled Palestine: Is Israel Above the Law? will be delivered by the eminent South African international human rights lawyer, Professor John Dugard.

Professor Dugard’s lecture will provide an informed analysis of the apartheid nature and likely international consequences of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory. He will assess the extent to which Western governments might or might not be prepared to apply sanctions against Israel, and will review the implications of such international responses on a single or two-state outcome.

This will be an important survey of possible future scenarios and developments in dealing with the problems encountered in the region. This year’s ESML will be of great interest to all those interested in Western attitudes and approaches to dealing with human rights issues.

Tickets for the lecture are now available on the AFOPA website. Please buy your tickets as soon as possible to secure a seat. AFOPA members will be entitled to a special discount ticket price of $15.00.

The 2016 ESML is being presented jointly by AFOPA and the School of Social Sciences at the University of Adelaide. The date and time of the lecture is Saturday 15 October, at 5.00pm, in the Elder Hall on Adelaide’s North Terrace.

Details of Professor Dugard’s career and his role as Special Rapporteur to the UN Commission on Human Rights are provided on AFOPA's ESML webpage. You can buy tickets now via our webpage. Please let your friends and networks know about this important event.
