The Makeshifts are a throwback to the late 40's early 50's. Taking their inspiration from the early jump blues artists along with traditional rockabilly, they create a sound, that, while fresh, seems to channel these great decades of the past. The Makeshifts are jam-packed with quick and creative guitar solos, soulful singing, swingin' bass walks and solid, thumping drum beats.

BIG APPLE LESSON SERIES - 9/7

You've seen it at Nyoh's, you've seen it at events - come join the amazing Mark Calkins and Shannon Varner as they teach The Big Apple in the month of September!

Today, the Big Apple shows up in scenes and at events all over the world, but it's been around since the beginning - check out this clip of the very same dance - recorded in 1939!

SOLO JAZZ CRASH COURSE - 8/31

Don't forget to join the super-talented Ali Lodico for our second solo jazz crash course right at the end of August! You can join us even if you weren't able to make the first one.

This is the perfect way to prep for next month's Big Apple series, plus solo dancing is a great way to improve your confidence, mechanics, and the voice you bring to a partnered dance.

Blue Lunch is an 8 piece band in Cleveland, Ohio. Influences range from Chicago style blues, jazz, jump swing, R&B, doo-wop & soul.

Rocktober is pleased to announce Chris & Liz Schoenfelder as the instructors for their fundamentals track!

Chris discovered swing dancing more than 10 years ago at Purdue University. He was teaching in less than a year, and hasn’t stopped since. His enthusiasm for swing is contagious and his practical approach to technique speaks to both beginners and advanced dancers alike.

Liz began swing dancing in the summer of ’99 when she was introduced to the weekly swing dance at Fountain Square in Indianapolis. Since then, she has traveled across the country to numerous workshops and events with a growing love of the dance and its community. As an instructor, she likes to focus on keeping it simple and fun.

SwingColumbus is not just a non-profit organization, it's a community-driven collaboration of people who just love to dance. All of the organizers volunteer their time to run dances, teach workshops, DJ, maintain the web site, and communicate with the public about upcoming events. All are welcome and none are turned away.
