Round Sixteen Round Up

Hi Everyone,

Congratulations to all our Junior teams for the great semi-finals played this past weekend, with some great contests at Griffith Park. A special mention and huge Congratulations to our u12’s who are playing in the Grand Final this weekend at Kingsdene Oval, Carlingford vs. Narrabeen. Good Luck and do yourselves proud.

This past weekend also saw the final mini’s round held at Narrabeen with the presentation of a trophy from WJRU with the Rats players. What a fantastic season for all with some great rugby and some news skills learnt by our mini’s on their rugby pathway.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the coaches, managers and volunteers for all the time given this past season to the kids and the club, as without you all putting your hands up to do all the various tasks from coaching, BBQ,  field set up, pack down and canteen, we could not run a successful village club. Thank you from the Committee.

Enjoy the summer and watch out for various updates throughout summer,  as the 2017 season will be fast approaching and we look forward to seeing you all back in 2017. If you know anyone who is looking for a new club or interested in playing rugby introduce them to the Cougars family in 2017.

See you all at the end of season presentation day 18th September 2016.

Thanks again for a wonderful 2016.

Cheers

Alistair

TEAM UPDATE U12

Collaroy V’s Seaforth – Semi-Final – A Class Outfit

Our semi-final was played in perfect conditions at home as we finished the regular season in second place.  It was difficult to spate the top four teams as “sports bet” had them all at $2.50 to win the flag!!

Luke was back, however Jimmy was out with a virus and Lachie & Ben were only running at 50% strength but decided to play regardless.

Seaforth looked the bigger pack & the coaching bench were anxious about the outcome as Mark & Al issued the orders prior to kick off.

We started strongly, a real urgency was felt amongst our boys as we fired up & got involved in attack & defense with real commitment.  We held them in their half for plenty of breakdowns & moved the ball wide in attack with superb passing but Seaforth defended well & stopped us from scoring.  We pursued their line but a forward pass just out halted our progress. Seaforth under stress kicked well to clear but Hayden was onto it & ran with speed as he linked up with Nathan & Luke who quickly joined the back line.  Now 15 out we moved the ball to the right flank & with aid from Curtis & Dylan they set up Luke as he steam rolled through four defenders to score in the corner.  Nathan converted.

14th Minute

Collaroy 7 – Seaforth 0

They kicked off & again we had the ascendency as Dean, Ollie & Marcus all had big hit ups.  Good hands in the ruck as Seaforth pushed over well with their weighted pack & we needed to fight in the breakdowns to hold possession.  Wilson, Will D & Tom got involved as all our training was paying off with precision rugby.  They finally got the opportunity to run the ball but it wasn’t long as our boys swarmed their backs & eventually pushed them over the sideline in front of our appreciative fan club.  Ben threw his body in defense & received an accidental finger to the eye & was off for a short time.  We weren’t giving an inch as Will S was encouraging our boys as they made copy book tackles.  We continued to hassle the opposition with great rucking & gave them no room to move.  We were ‘hungry’ for a grand final berth & we let Seaforth know it.  Play headed back to deep in their half Curtis got it to Hayden with a lightening pass & he ran 20 metres to score in the corner.  Nathan’s conversion missed.

23rd Minute

Collaroy 12 – Seaforth 0

HALF TIME  - Mark said “you are doing well, move it again wide & get it to Dylan.  Run around their backs, offer good support & keep the intensity up.  Nathan good running & Will S great tackling.   Stay deep in the backline don’t over run your man.  Don’t slacken off in the second half & we will win this game”.

Dean kicked high & Lachie was first there (sick or not he was ready for play) to rip the ball from their forward.  It was an arm wrestle in the middle as both teams were facing elimination.  We rucked with feeling, two big packs toe to toe, they made one of only a few line breaks but Jai, Sam & Kai were always there in pursuit & cover defended brilliantly.  We made it back up field Ollie & Will D showing power in their runs as Mark called Drive, Drive, Drive & our boys pushed over strongly.  The ball must have passed through eight pairs of hands & finally offered Luke a chance for the line & he busted their last attempts to go over in the corner.  Hayden’s conversion missed

29th Minute

Collaroy 17 – Seaforth 0

Play resumed & Wilson accidently got a high shot, the crowd was rowdy & the ref showed his displeasure, he stopped the game momentarily.  Our penalty & possession was well favouring Collaroy as Seaforth were exhausted & had no answers.  George & Marcus punished their defense straight on as we were setting the standard.  We again headed towards their line with decisive runs & protected the ball with passion.  We were held up once but gained the ball again & with great support Nathan confirmed his talent in attack to run over for a well deserved five pointer.  Deans conversion missed.

46th Minute

Collaroy 22 – Seaforth 0

Although we let our guard down in the last two minutes to let the final points go their way we were guaranteed a finals berth with a classy performance across the park.

FINAL SCORE

Collaroy 22 – Seaforth 7

Man of the Match
Will S 3 points, Luke 2 points, Nathan, Ben, Marcus & Hayden 1 point
