Welcome to this week’s e-news

I hope that you have enjoyed your summer break, no matter how big or small it might have been and that you all feel refreshed and ready to welcome September!

We have lots of exciting events and activities coming your way this autumn, with our prestigious North East Construction Summit only 3 weeks away on the 20th September. We are delighted to have confirmed Tim Whitehill, MD of Project Five Consulting and Darush Dodds, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Esh Group. We will also be holding a question time style panel with Mark Thompson MD of Ryder Architecture who will chair this part of the event and panellists including Young Achievers from our G4C and others who will discuss their views on the industry, collaborative working and skills.

We have a few exhibition spaces available and if you are interested in taking this opportunity please contact Leanne and details on how to book your place for the Summit are below.

Yesterday Leanne and Lauren attended the RICS Summer Networking event which was supported by G4C at the Wylam Brewery at Exhibition Park, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The next G4C NE event is the Summer BBQ which is being held on September 15th in association with RTPI Young Planners at the Bridge Tavern and further details of this are below.

Tomorrow, Leanne will be attending the G4C National AGM in Birmingham along with Natalie Keyes, Watson Burton and Eve Wilson, Turner & Townsend, who both sit on the G4C North East Committee. I’m sure this will be an interesting and informative day and we look forward to hearing all about it on their return.

We are delighted to announce that we now have 18 teams for our Charity Golf Day on September 29th with the Lighthouse Club, however, can still fit in a couple of individual players and up to 4 more teams. Please enquire with Lauren for further details.

We hope we see you at some of our upcoming events!

Best wishes,

Catriona

Mayoral candidate announced as key speaker

Entrepreneur and independent North East Mayoral candidate, Jeremy Middleton CBE, has been announced as the key note speaker at a forthcoming employer event being hosted by one of the region’s fastest growing training providers.

Jeremy, who is currently touring the region to get feedback on his jobs policy, as part of his campaign, has agreed to speak at NCT Skills for Life’s (NCT) inaugural employers’ event, which is taking place mid-September.

NCT, a not-for-profit community interest company, which offers construction industry training recently launched JEF- CEP, an Armed Forces JV 12-week pre-apprenticeship training programme offering 240 young people aged 16-19 the chance to gain extra skills in communication, self-discipline and team building as well as an insight into joinery, bricklaying, plastering and roofing before embarking on a full apprenticeship.

The organisation was keen to attract Jeremy as its speaker because of his understanding of the importance of skills training to the region.

As part of his plan for the region, Jeremy has committed to a £1bn ‘Jobs and Investment Fund’ for the North East which will seek to deliver 100,000 new jobs locally by 2024. Businesses that he himself has set up, or supported, currently employ more than 5,000, therefore he is well aware of how important job creation is for the region.

We will be raising funds for Metro Radio's Cash for Kids a North East based Charity.

Cash for Kids is a local charity, and it is our mission to support local children who are disabled, disadvantaged, sick, or suffering from abuse or neglect, from the ages of 0-18. All the funds for the charity are raised locally, and redistributed locally, to individuals, families and other charities dedicated to improving the lives of young people.

We are proud to operate an 80% contribution across the UK, with clear visibility on where the money goes and who it is helping. However, at Metro Radio Cash For Kids, our last audit in 2015 showed that our contribution was much higher, with at least 90 pence in every pound donated going directly to the children we help to support.

A raffle will be held during the evening and would appreciate your support with donations. If you would like to donate a prize please email Leanne. (Your logo will be displayed on the quiz guest list on the evening)

There is no objection to entering more than one team so please encourage your clients and work colleagues to join in! **No more than 5 in a team**.
