Braun's bold dash

Games played September 7-8, 2016

September 8

Houston 3B Alex Bregman went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs in a 10-7 loss to Cleveland, raising his batting average to .267 and his RBI total to 30 in 172 at-bats. Bregman opened the scoring with an RBI double in the 1st, had an RBI groundout in the 5th, and added an RBI triple in the 7th. Houston (74-66) is two-and-a-half games behind Baltimore for the second and final A.L. Wild Card slot.

Milwaukee LF Ryan Braun went 0-for-3 but managed two RBIs in a 12-5 win over the Cardinals, contributing an RBI groundout in the 3rd and a sacrifice fly in the 6th. Meanwhile, the Brewers nominated Braun for baseball's annual Roberto Clemente Award, which "recognize[s] the player who best represents the game of baseball through sportsmanship, community involvement and positive contributions, both on and off the field."

Ian Kinsler's Tigers (75-64) were idle and sit one game behind Baltimore for the second and final A.L. Wild Card slot.

Kevin Pillar's and Scott Feldman's Blue Jays were idle. Toronto (77-62) trails the A.L. East-leading Red Sox by one game but hold the league's first Wild Card slot.

Danny Valencia's Athletics were idle.

September 7

Milwaukee LF Ryan Braun went 2-for-3 and drew a walk in a 2-1 win over the Cubs. Braun gamely tried to stretch a 4th-inning single into an unlikely double, and he almost succeeded, reaching the base first. But when he overslid the bag, 2B Ben Zobrist tagged him out.

Houston 3B Alex Bregman went 1-for-5 in a 6-5 loss to Cleveland.

Back from a finger injury, Detroit 2B Ian Kinsler went 1-for-4 in a 7-4 loss to the White Sox. Kinsler made his seventh error of the season, and after singling in the 6th inning, he was picked off by P Jose Quintana.

Toronto CF Kevin Pillar 0-for-2 with a walk in a 2-0 loss to the Yankees. Teammate Scott Feldman did not pitch.

CF Joc Pederson sat out Los Angeles' 3-1 win over Arizona.

Danny Valencia sat out Oakland's 4-1 win over the Angels.
