"Dedicated to parents"
My daughter was diagnosed with auditory neuropathy and received bilateral cochlear implants by the time she was 5 years old. My initial contact with BEGINNINGS was to get help with working with the school to close the huge learning gap between my daughter and her hearing peers.
She was several grade levels behind in reading and vocabulary. I wasn't happy with her language development plan and needed some insight on the best approach in dealing with the school system. So I met with a parent educator from BEGINNINGS and she helped me to understand the significance in voicing my concerns to my daughter's school teachers and her teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing.
My parent educator joined me at many difficult IEP meetings so that I had a notable support partner. Some meetings were long and draining, but having a person there who understood what I was trying to achieve made it more bearable.
I'm very thankful for the opportunity to work with BEGINNINGS and hope other parents know there is a supportive organization dedicated to parents of children with hearing loss.
Please join the "BEGINNINGS Brings It On" team today. 40% of the funds our team raises stays with BEGINNINGS, and goes directly to supporting North Carolina families just like this family. Tell family, friends, and community members you are walking, and ask them to support the BEGINNINGS team too! We'll see you there.
