Saturday, September 17, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Coronado Elementary School
2100 Maine Ave. Richmond

The West Contra Costa Unified School District, in partnership with the Alliance for Public Education, will showcase our 14 local schools who received the CA Gold Ribbon Award from the CA Department of Education. Representatives from the Gold Ribbon Schools, including Madera, will be on hand to share information about the “best practices” used at their school.

The morning provides an opportunity to meet the new superintendent, Matt Duffy. Glen Price, CA Co-Deputy Superintendent of Schools and former WCCUSD Board of Education Member, will deliver a greeting and the Korematsu Jazz Band will perform. Refreshments and childcare will be provided.

Korematsu 5th & 6th Grade Band

Classes Start October 5th

Good news for 5th and 6th grade musicians from Fairmont, Kensington, Madera, Harding, Washington, Mira Vista and Riverside Elementary Schools!  Tiffany Carrico, band director at Korematsu Middle School, will be holding Wednesday night band classes once again this year.  This class provides the unique chance for musicians from different elementary schools to work together on a regular basis. It has been wonderfully successful the last few years and is run free of charge.

The class will start on Wednesday, Oct. 5 and will run weekly from 6-7 pm in the Korematsu band room (room D109).  The band will have at least a couple of performances during the year (details to be announced later).

Ms. Carrico generally does not have instruments to loan out since the Korematsu program has expanded greatly in recent years. She hopes that all kids will be signing up for in-school band class (if they don’t own an instrument) so they can check out a district instrument that way.

Please send Ms. Carrico a quick email (scrappyslap@hotmail.com) or give her a quick call (510-717-0718) if you would like your child to participate.
