Get ready for a weekend of walks

There’s never been a better time to get active and explore your borough – with a special weekend of walks planned in first week of October.

We’ve organised 20 special guided walks on 1 and 2 October:

  • from exploring Alexandra Palace, through to finding out about the ancient wells of Muswell Hill
  • from experiencing North Tottenham’s heritage restoration, through to enjoying Tottenham Marshes and the New River
There is something for everyone!

It’s all part of Haringey’s Year of Walking which aims to encourage people to enjoy what is the simplest, cheapest, most sociable  and enjoyable way to be active.

See our Haringey Walking Weekend events page for more details of the walks.

Off licences face temporary licence ban for dodgy sales

Two off licences have had their alcohol licences suspended for a month after they were caught trying to sell dodgy drink and cigarettes.

Seven Sisters Off Licence and Tottenham Express were both rapped by Haringey Council’s licensing committee for flouting rules which ensure only safe and legal goods are sold on the borough’s high streets.

Get paid to transform the life of a vulnerable person

Do you want to earn up to £500 per week helping to transform the lives of vulnerable people?

Shared Lives Haringey is a scheme where local residents open their homes to help adults with learning disabilities, mental health needs and physical disabilities live and be cared for in the community.

By sharing their home, family and community life with someone who needs support, Shared Lives carers help those who need support to live independently.

To get an insight into Shared Lives please read the story of carer Lynn Stevens or watch the Shared lives Haringey video:

Carers are recruited and trained by the scheme. An independent panel of professionals and service user representatives approve the individual to provide care and support, before being carefully matched with service users.

Through permanent and short-term placements in family homes, the scheme allows people to enjoy extra support and companionship without the need for traditional care.

Please find answers to the questions we get asked the most about becoming a Shared Lives carer in our Shared Lives FAQs document (PDF, 32KB).

If you want to apply to become a Shared Lives carer, please complete and return the shared lives carers application form (PDF, 112KB) to:
