What I'm Working On
Still working on my Bowties Quilt using the Maribel fabric collection by Annabel Wrigley for Windham Fabrics, you can see I moved onto the back above and incorporated all my 'bonus' HST squares from making the quilt top in there too.
Hit a snag while I was quilting the Maribel sandwich - realised I'd pieced these bottom 3 blocks upside down. This gave me the opportunity to put a question out there that I'm often asked by students in my classes - what should I do? My reply is always - can you live with it? Every time, they know the answer straight away - and everyone's different.
So I put the question out there on Instagram to see if we had the same split as in my classroom. Indeed, there was a 33/33/33 leaving/unpicking/depends split from Instagram followers. I have to say I fall into the 'depends' camp and on this occasion when I get home from South Africa I will be unpicking it for the following reasons:
I actually love a rogue block and the more obvious the better and it would be easy to do here as the quilt and prints are so busy you don't even see anything's wrong. My problem lies with the quilting design. The quilting pattern I'm doing can't continue correctly over those 3 blocks and it looks bad - that's how I discovered I'd made the mistake, when I couldn't continue to quilt the design onto the next block in the direction I was supposed to as it was upside down. This time, I can't live with it so I'm going to unpick. Other influencing factors include the possibility of selling the quilt and also that I'm reviewing the Bowties Quilt pattern for John Kubiniec @ bigrigquilting's A New Spin On Drunkard's Path book so, I want it to be right.
What would you do if this happened to you?
