Editor's Note: Personnel Change

Earlier this week, we announced to KU leadership that Gerald Holland will be leaving the university to become Vice President of Marketing at Sporting KC. This is a remarkable opportunity for Gerald, and as sad as we are to lose him, we are glad to know he will remain in the Kansas City area with an organization that is important to our community.

Gerald has been a wonderful leader, colleague and friend to so many of us. Please take a moment to thank him for helping us make tremendous strides in our marketing efforts, including the creation of a unified university-wide brand.

Lauren Erickson has agreed to step into the Director of Marketing Communications role on an interim basis at the end of the month. Lauren has been at KU since 2009 and has been instrumental to our recent successes in recruitment marketing and enrollment growth. She will do an outstanding job continuing our progress as we tell the KU story to regional and national audiences.

We will begin a search for the next Director of Marketing Communications later this fall and expect to have permanent leadership in place in the spring.

U.S. News rankings scheduled for Sept. 13

The 2017 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings are scheduled for release at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13. As in prior years, we ask all KU Communicators to refrain from publicizing the rankings – including individual school and unit rankings – until Public Affairs publishes its news release that day.

Climate Study launches Sept. 13

On Sept. 13, KU will launch the Your Voice. Your KU climate study, a university-wide examination of the living, learning and working environment at KU, and we are asking KU Communicators like you to help encourage participation among students and employees in your unit. To help you do this, Marketing Communications has created social media assets for you to download from myCommunity.

Enrollment data to be announced Sept. 26

Per Regents policy, universities must wait until the 20th day of the academic year to release fall enrollment numbers following the Regent’s release of system-wide data. This year, that will happen on Sept. 26. KU Communicators should refrain from publicizing school-specific data until Public Affairs publishes its news release that day.

Provost introduces priorities

Provost Neeli Bendapudi introduced four priorities for the year in her first campus-wide message of the semester. As in past years, the Provost and Chancellor will continue to share campus-wide messages on alternating Mondays.

CASE membership for Communicators

The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) has changed its membership program. Beginning this year, an unlimited number of individuals per member institution are eligible for benefits. Public Affairs, the KU Alumni Association and KU Endowment have jointly paid KU’s total cost for this year, meaning all KU Communicators are covered. Visit the CASE membership page for details.
