Process to hire TCHC President and CEO underway

Toronto Community Housing’s Board of Directors has begun a process to hire for the position of President and Chief Executive Officer. The Board has retained global executive search firm Boyden Canada to conduct a national and international search. As part of this process, an executive opportunity ad for the position has been posted on both Toronto Community Housing’s website and Boyden Canada’s website. Persons interested in applying should contact Boyden Canada at TCHC@boyden.com.

TCHC Board of Directors approves transfer of Block 36 to the City of Toronto 

At its September 14 meeting, the Board of Directors passed a motion to transfer Block 36 North of the Railway Lands back to the City. In support of the City’s Open Door program and by transferring the site back to the City, development of affordable housing on this site can be accelerated. This motion will be forwarded to the City’s Executive Committee.

Meet Angela Cooke, the new Vice President of Resident and Community Services

Angela Cooke joined Toronto Community Housing as the new Vice President of Resident and Community Services on September 6.

Angela brings over two decades of experience working in social housing sector in Canada and the United Kingdom and joins us from WoodGreen Community Services where she last served as the Vice President of Housing and Supports.

She will help lead the company in resident engagement, community development, revitalization and renewal community engagement, and resident access and support.

Bishop Tutu community creates unity through art

Residents from the Bishop Tutu community joined together to create two community murals in response to an incident of violence and to combat stigma against their community.

The City of Toronto, Waterfront Neighbourhood Centre and Toronto Crime Stoppers partnered with Toronto Community Housing and the residents of Bishop Tutu to make the community murals a reality.

Building trust, one meal at a time

A dedicated team of volunteers from St. Peter’s Mission helped to provide a summer lunch program to Toronto Community Housing residents in Scarborough. The program had a positive impact on residents, and also offered mental health and social support.

Revitalization changes the lives of Alexandra Park residents

Residents of Alexandra Park celebrated the 50th anniversary of their community this summer and reflected on the ongoing transformations of the community. Waseem Tahir and his family have lived in the Alexandra Park community for the past 16 years. Last month, they moved into their brand new townhome. Waseem shares how the revitalization process has transformed his community, bringing neighbours together.

A first glance at Covenant House’s new transitional home

Our partner Covenant House Toronto has created a virtual tour video of The Rogers Home, a transitional housing program for young women who have been victims of sex-trafficking. Through the Rogers Home, Covenant House provides young women support, services and a network of community partners to help rebuild their lives. 

Toronto Community Housing is leasing the property to Covenant House at a nominal fee, while Covenant House will be responsible for ongoing operating and maintenance costs. The Rogers Home is the first long-term transitional program of its kind in Toronto.
