Más de 10 000 árboles sembrados en Monteverde y Guacimal -
More than 10 000 trees planted in the Monteverde area and Guacimal
El proyecto de reforestación de nacientes y áreas riparias ejecutado por la Fundación Conservacionista Costarricense (FCC) y el Instituto Monteverde (IMV), ha entregado este año alrededor de 10 000 árboles de más 57 especies en todo el área del Corredor Biológico Pájaro Campana (CBPC).
 
Se han entregado árboles cuyo rango de distribución varía desdeb el nivel del mar hasta los 1500 msnm, por ejemplo: Roble sabana (Tabebuia rosea), Laurel muñeco (Cordia eriostigma), Jorco (Garcinia intermedia), Guachipelín (Croton niveus), Cortéz Amarillo (Tabebuia ochracea); diferentes especies de la familia “Lauraceae” tales como: Ocotea floribunda, Ocotea tonduzii,  y Cinnamomom brenessi, y especies amenazadas como Ocotea monteverdensis y Nectandra salicina.
 
Nuestros tres viveros se encuentran en Monteverde (Instituto Monteverde y en la Reserva La Calandria) y en colaboracion con el Centro Demostrative de Sostenibilidad en Guacimal, cuya producción ha beneficiado a ASADAS, organizaciones y población en general de Monteverde, Guacimal, Chomes, Cedral, Sardinal y Pitahaya.   
 
Gracias al esfuerzo de la FCC, el IMV y el CDS este proyecto propicia y estimula la protección del recurso hídrico y del suelo a la vez que restaura el hábitat de especies como el pájaro campana (Procnias tricarunculatus) y el quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno) y fortalece la gestión comunitaria a través del CBPC.

--- The watershed and riparian reforestation project of the Fundación Concervacionista Costarricence (FCC) and the Monteverde Institute (MVI), has delivered more than 10 000 trees this year, comprised of 57 species, in the Bellbird Biological Corridor (CBPC).
 
The tree species have a distribution range from sea level to 1500 m asl (approximately 4900 feet in elevation) and include (common names appear in Spanish): Roble sabana (Tabebuia rosea), Laurel muñeco (Cordia eriostigma), Jorco (Garcinia intermedia), Guachipelín (Croton niveus), Cortéz Amarillo (Tabebuia ochracea); different â€œLauraceae” species such as: Ocotea floribunda, Ocotea tonduzii,  and Cinnamomom brenessi, and the threatened species of Ocotea monteverdensis and Nectandra salicina
 
Our three tree nurseries are found in Monteverde (Monteverde Institute and La Calandria Reserve) and in Guacimal (in collaboration with the Centro Demostrativo de Sostenibilidad).  This production has benefited different water associations, several organizations and the general population of Monteverde, Guacimal, Chomes, Cedral, Sardinal and Pitahaya.
 
Thanks to the efforts of the FCC, the MVI and the CDS, this project promotes and supports  the protection of water and soil resources as well as restoring habitat for species such as the well-known Bellbird (Procnias tricarunculatus) and the Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno). The project also strengthens community management through the Bellbird Biological Corridor.

Cursos de primeros auxilios WAFA- WFR

Estas son imágenes del curso de primeros auxilios avanzados (certificaciones WAFA y WFR) que se dio en el Instituto Monteverde a finales de agosto. Varias personas de la comunidad (incluyendo miembros del personal del IMV) y de diferentes zonas del país asistieron para aprender sobre el cómo lidiar con emergencias en Ã¡reas remotas. En la foto podemos ver una simulación de una manera eficiente de inmovilizar y extraer individuos lesionados. 
Agradecemos a los instructora (Georgia Villaflor) y el organizador (Frank Joyce) por este importante aporte a la comunidad.
--- The images above are from the Advanced First Aid workshop (with both WAFA and WFR certifications) offered at the Monteverde Institute in August. Several members of the community (including members of the MVI staff) as well as people from different parts of the country learned how to handle emergencies in remote areas. The photo is a simulation of an efficient manner to immobilize and extract hurt individuals.  
We want to thank the instructor (Georgia Villaflor) as well as the local organizer (Frank Joyce) for making this possible.
 
Parque recreativo San Luis  ---Recreational park in San Luis
Finalmente se está construyendo el primer parque de la zona de Monteverde en San Luis. La Asociación de desarrollo de San Luis es la organización líder del proyecto. El Instituto Monteverde colaboró aportando el diseño, consiguiendo materiales (en conjunto con varias empresas locales) y en parte de la construcción por medio de nuestro programa de Futuros Sostenibles. 
Muy pronto les estaremos pasando avances y detalles de este proyecto, igual si gustan colaborar se pueden poner en contacto con la Asociación.

--- The first recreational park in the Monteverde area is finally being built in San Luis! The San Luis local development association is the lead organization in this effort.  The Monteverde Institute collaborated by providing  the design,  construction materials (along with other local businesses) and construction efforts through our Sustainable Futures program.  
We will soon be posting updated info on the progress at this park, so stay tuned!

Closure of the José Martí conference at the MVI

"Este evento tendrá como objetivo la articulación de los diversos escenarios de Nuestra América, lo que nos conducirá a repensar críticamente el legado y la visión socio histórica, cultural y político que José Martí nos heredó.

La conferencia de clausura del Coloquio tendrá lugar en el Instituto Monteverde, el sábado 10 de setiembre a las 10:30 a.m. Esperamos contar con su presencia."
