County of Simcoe Age Friendly Community Public Consultations

The County of Simcoe is hosting a series of Age-Friendly Community Public Consultations throughout September to gain further input from residents and stakeholders about the age-friendliness of our communities. The consultations will serve as the final step in the Age-Friendly Community initiative's public engagement process, which has been ongoing since January 2016

Attendees will learn about how communities worldwide are being made friendlier for aging residents, and have the opportunity to provide additional input into local research on priorities for continuing improvement that were identified within the eight World Health Organization's Age-Friendly dimensions: housing, outdoor spaces, transportation, communication, respect, social participation, employment, and community and health services.

Results from the consultation sessions and the full community engagement process will be utilized to determine the guiding principles of the County's Age-Friendly Community Planning Framework.

The Collingwood session will be: September 14, 2016 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Sunset Manor, 49 Raglan St., Collingwood, Ontario

There will also be sessions in Alliston, September 12th, Orillia, September 19th and Penetanguishene September 30th.

For further information on the County’s Age-Friendly Community initiative please visit www.simcoe.ca/age-friendly  or contact the Age-Friendly Project Lead at 705-726-9300 ext. 1405 or
email: agefriendly@simcoe.ca.

Back to School Reminders

The Town would like to remind residents that as kids are heading back to school we all need to do our part to keep kids safe as they walk, bus and bike to school.

Safety Tips:
  • Watch for signs indicating no stopping and no parking and keep fire routes and bus zones clear
  • Do not obstruct or park on sidewalks
  • Slow down in school zones and be ready to stop at all times
  • Obey all laws, including the posted speed limits
  • Follow and obey all instructions from crossing guards

Every year the Town receives complaints about vehicles parked in school zones. Parking or leaving vehicles in unauthorized areas disturbs traffic flow and causes reduced visibility crating potential danger to children and other vehicles.

We encourage students and their families to use active means of travel to school when possible such as walking or biking. Using active means of travel promotes physical activity and reduces traffic congestion.
