"Her snake belly
whispers to me
'surrender'.
Once again I find myself
faced with the choice
to let fear consume me
or devotion swallow me
whole."
- Answering the call of the Goddess.
We are right on the precipice of eclipse season and transition into fall. This time in between is sacred and potent.
Eclipse season beckons us to address the parts of ourselves and our lives that we have been ignoring or working hard to disown. It is the season of the tender underbelly of the serpent; her rawness and nakedness that moves across the earth after she has shed her skin. Our vulnerability, our wounds, the new and tender parts of our lives that are aching to be re-birthed all call to us during eclipse season.
Brining us to the brink, heightening the experience of our lives, and temporarily throwing us into darkness, eclipse season is the call of the dark goddess, of Kali Ma, of Mary Magdalene, of the priestess, of the wild feminine that shadows the moon. It is the time to listen to, to honor, and to invite all parts of ourselves into the play and speak, even the parts that we fear.
I say all of this not to evoke trepidation or caution around eclipse season and movement into fall. In fact, it is quite the opposite, this fertile time is an invitation to look at our (w)holy selves, the desires that swell up from our womb that we’ve rejected because “they aren’t rational”, because “they will never work”, because they do not fit into the cookie cutter conceptions of what we believe that our lives should be.
Answering the invitation to look at our all of our desires and to explore honoring and living our lives from this place means stepping in to the holy space of śūnya.
Sūnya simultaneously means emptiness, the sacred void, and heaven. This space often arouses and conjures fear, our fear of the dark, our fear of our darkness, our fear of our expansiveness, our fear of the divine, of the sacred space all around and within us. There is a beauty and wholeness found in this space, in this surrender. In allowing ourselves to die back like the plants around us at the end of the season, to let parts of ourselves and our lives fall away like the leaves falling in Autumn.
When we surrender ourselves to be consumed by the sacred fire of Kali Ma, burning bright orange like fall leaves, or immersing ourselves in the holy deep dark waters of the goddess, there is spaciousness to discover the essence of who we are, for a l c h e m y to occur. And we can find and satiate the deep hunger we have to lead lives from this place of immersion, purpose, union with our fullest selves.
So call on snake medicine, on the goddess, let yourself be held by her spirit, be held by the trees and the earth. Give her your pain, your fear, your deepest desires. Call on her to show you the next right step. Sit in circle with others, with the plant beings. Make room to heal, to be filled up by the magic all around you. Alchemy needs spaciousness and sacred space to occur. Honor yourself, honor the call, and create room for your hearts, wombs, who beings to speak.
I love you. You are not alone in your fear and desires. Come work, explore, grow, be held, and heal with me.
In good medicine & always with love,
Caity.
