Dear Parents,

Our first class meets this weekend!

  • 5th Grade (2) - 2:00 - 3:15pm
  • 6th Grade - 3:45 - 5:00pm
  • 7/8th Grade - 5:15 - 6:30pm

Oklahoma City Location = COHBA Event Center

The Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association (COHBA) Event Center’s address is 420 East Britton, just East of Broadway Extension next to The Daily Oklahoman building, before the Channel 4 building.

Edmond Classes, Monday, September 12:

  • 5th Grade (2) - 5:00 - 6:15pm
  • 6th Grade - 6:30 - 7:45pm
  • 7/8th Grade - 8:00 - 9:15pm

Edmond Location = Nigh University Center, Heritage Room, 3rd Floor.  The Nigh University Center is located just North of 2nd Street and Garland Godfrey.  Parking is available in the ‘paid’ lot just East of the Nigh - the parking attendant will more than likely wave the $1 fee if you are just there for a few minutes to drop off or pick up.

To ensure the first class of the season flows smoothly, I want to share some information about the sign in process and what happens during the class. If we do not have your child’s email address on file, please take a few minutes to visit with him or her and share this information so they will have an idea of what to expect.

You should have received an E-mail from us already with your child’s class details (date, time, location).  If you are not able to locate the E-mail, you can view the detailed schedules online via the links below.  We have placed all of the students from the same school together, based on his or her grade and preference of Oklahoma City or Edmond.  The Basic Schedule is always available for your convenience on the website.

When your child arrives for the first class, they will need to “sign in” at the computerized check-in system by announcing his or her name to the Student Ambassador at the sign in table.  It will, more than likely, be crowded and a little loud, so please have your child prepared to speak clearly so the person at the table can hear them.  Once they receive their name tag, they will wait in the lobby area with the other students.

When it’s time for class to begin, we will ask the students to form a single file line of ladies, as well as a single file line of gentlemen.  They will be instructed to enter the ballroom area one at a time to introduce themselves to Mrs. Vega.  A student assistant will then direct them to their seat.  At that point, we will go over instructions for the entire class in more detail.  We will introduce the curriculum for the class and learn dance steps.  Halfway through the class we will have punch and cookies, then continue with instruction and dancing.  The class is very structured and organized, and before the students know it we will be headed out the door to the receiving line, thanking the chaperones for a wonderful time.

Dress Code for Class:  The classes have a required dress code.  We believe this “sets the atmosphere” for the courtesies we are learning.  Please encourage your child to be aware of the dress code and the importance of it.  Dress Code information is available on the website and in the dress code music video.

A special note for students who are new to the program:  While some students are excited and looking forward to the first class of the season, many aren’t too “thrilled”... for lack of a better term.  I get many E-mails and calls from parents about kiddos who are anxious and very nervous about attending for the first time.  We refer to it as the “fear of the unknown.”  Please know that you are not alone and that the majority of the students actually end up having a great time and even “admitting” to enjoying themselves.  Other parents tell me their child did not complain, therefore they know all went well.

We’ve created a ‘Checklist’ to help you stay organized and make sure you have everything ready for the first class of the season:  bit.ly/EIEChecklist

Chaperoning is a GREAT way to see your child in action!  We would love to have as many as 6-12 chaperones for each class - Dad’s included! If you haven’t already done so, here is the link to sign up:  http://www.expeditionsinetiquette.com/youth/chaperone-signup-forms/

We will have our Student Ambassadors on hand for all of the events.  We hope you enjoy their ‘welcome musc video’ as a fun introduction to the Student Ambassadors before the season begins.

We look forward to seeing your child at their first class of the season.

As always, please do not hesitate to E-mail or call if you have questions.

Thank you,

Ann

Word of Mouth is the best compliment you can give.  Do you know of some who may be interested in our programs, please share our information with them.  Here is the best link to share with them, it covers everything in a nutshell:  https://www.expeditionsinetiquette.com/youth/programs/
